I know what your talking about but have never tired it for me.
Knowlege is knowing that a tomato is a fruit; Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad

Take 1 clove of garlic, add 1 clove of garlic, and 1 clove of garlic. Eat them whole. Repeat.

You could always go the route of "drink plenty of clear liquids.."
Ya know, Gin, Vodaka, Scnapps, Everclear...
But when I boils down to it, a bit of whisky helps you sleep, and sort of staves off the cough. Drink enough of it, and you won't care about being ill.
Hope ya feel better soon!

Sorry, Andrew, I'll have to disagree with you there. I just finished a class on the effects of psychoactive drugs, and ethanol actually disrupts the sleep cycle and cuts down on the amount of REM sleep that a person can achieve until they are fully detoxified.

cloves,
For a bad sore throat I find this really works.
Take about 3/4 cup of hot water* and add a tablespoon of salt to it. Stir until the salt is dissolved. Gargle with the mixture as long as you can then spit it out. Then gargle with mouthwash. It tastes terrible but it really works.
Cheers
Panache
* WARNING! Please note Hot (not boiling or scalding) enough to help dissolve the salt but not so hot that you can't gargle with it.

do a google for Spiced Russian tea mix, i add more ginger and cloves, so that it almost burns the throat..
I found this one; What is in bold is what i would do!
Spiced Tea
2 to 3 cups of sugar (depending on your sweet tooth)i dont use the sugar
2 packets orange kool-aid mixI would use Tang or a Vitamin C mix drink,,this would take the place of the sugar
1 or 2 packets lemon kool-aid mix (depending on your sour tooth)i don't use lemons
1/2 cup instant tea or iced tea mix, sometime the sugar free ones are a good choice
1 or 2 teaspoons cinnamonI add more and sometimes add cinnamon heart candies yeah i like sugar....
1/4 teaspoon ground clovesYEAH Baby! I add cloves and ginger
Get out a large dry bowl. Measure the sugar into the bowl. Open up the kool-aid packets and add them to the sugar. Stir well with a wire whisk or a clean dry fork. Add the instant tea, cinnamon and cloves. Stir again to mix well. This makes about 4 3/4 cups of mix. Store it in a well sealed container.
To prepare: Combine a tablespoon of Spiced Tea Mix with hot water in a cup or mug. Stir to dissolve. Serve hot.
Be sure to use the small fruit flavored soft drink (kool-aid) packets, the ones without any sugar added. I buy an off brand at 10 for a dollar. The name brand ones are about a quarter each. Regular recipes for Russian, or Spiced tea usually call for lemonade mix and Tang. I developed this recipe using the same flavors, but without the higher priced, sugar added, mixes. Use your own sugar, and save a bundle. This mix may be packaged in small plastic bags and given out as a gift at Christmas. Be sure to include instructions on how to prepare it.
Note: I prepare this recipe with 4 cups of sugar and 2 packets of lemonade mix which makes it very sweet. When I make a cup of it for myself I add a large dash of bottled lemon juice for flavor and tang. The rest of my family prefers the tea plain and sweet. I note this for reasons other lemon lovers will understand, especially if they have been subjected to over sweetened lemon concoctions as often as I. The extra dash of lemon juice gives this beverage just the right amount of "pucker". It tastes especially good on a sore throat.

instead of boiled water, boil cranberry juice. It makes a fine cocktail, and it works wonders.

The capsaicin in the peppers helps release endorphin to make you feel a bit better, while the vitamin c and citric acid helps fight infection. Warning attached to this method: if you are not accustomed to hot foods, be prepared to cuss, holler, sweat, and sit in a chair being dizzy for a few minutes.
Jalapenos are generally for folks that aren't accustomed to hot, spicy foods. If you really, really, want hot and spicy and Penelope Cruz isn't available, try some haberneros, they'll definately blow a hole in your underwear!
