    Thank you.

Anyway, does anyone have any info on whether or not this is a custom fit kilt or an off the rack fit?

I had to wait almost twelve weeks for mine to come through which, in a way, indicates that it was made to measure, and it does fit very well (or it did before I put on a lot of weight in recent months!!). On the other hand, the only measurements I was asked to select from drop-down menus - it was an on-line purchase - were for my waist and the length required, which suggests these are off-the rack kilts.

Either way, I am perfectly satisfied with my Saltire tartan kilt - and cannot wait to lose some inches so that I might wear it again!!

It was those drop down menus that concerned me. Having never had an off the rack kilt I have no idea what to expect as far as two measurement fit. What is the standard difference between the waist and the hip measurement on an off the rack kilt? I would hate to spend that money on a kilt that didn't fit.

But like Hamish said they only ask for two measurements. I think this is probably because they have to build the kilt around the special pleating necessary. so it would seems like there would need to be a standard waist to hip measurement so as not to screw that up. I don't know enough about kilt construction so maybe those that do could add an opinion.

    Thanks all

They're certainly beautiful kilts - and what a unique look compared to everything else out there!

I ordered one from Nicholson Highlandwear in January - it is an ex-hire kilt. I made the mistake of ordering an argyle jacket at the same time and have been waiting ever since to get my order. It will be eight weeks tomorrow, so I'll start worrying if they haven't shipped next week.

If I ever get it, I'll let you know how it wears.

The saltire is only in the pleated section. It would appear that you could not mmake a kilt small than that shown it the above photo, other wise some would be lost in the deep side pleats. A larger kilt could probably be made by adding pleats either side of the saltire. But you'll notice that the critical tapering of the pleats are done above the design. Having never seen the fabric myself however, this is only just assumption. Chef have discussed this with the seller yet?

I finally received the saltire kilt and Argyle jacket that I ordered in January. The saltire is part of the woven pattern, but not part of the plaid itself. I think the above assumption is correct that the change in sizes occur in the pleats behind the apron.

It's a lovely looking kilt, but I think I'd have to have been born in Scotland to wear it. Look at this outfit. As a Canadian, on my list of kilts to buy, is Pete MacHummel's Maple Leaf.

I'll take a look at this kilt when I'm over to this store in the next little while. I need a couple of chanter reeds, anyway.

Wow, that is a great looking tartan. Blue is my favorite color and this kilt has awesome shades of blue. It looks to formal.
