And I wouldn't worry too much about Coyote.

Coyote wears kilts too - pants get in the way of his wagging tail when he laughs. And the reactions of the unkilted to you have to appeal to his nature.

The lady's sudden departure suggests your stand on kilts and other issues has been vindicated though there could be other unrelated reasons for her sudden demise. In a way its a relief to lose this lady who at first behaved like a control freak trying to tell people how to dress, even though she eventually came to accept your kilts, but its never good to see anyone lose their job in such an abrupt manner.

I think things will work out in the long run. Coyote, much like Loki plays tricks on us to see if we are paying attention. You have been. Well done.

    Ron,

What a story, I second what some others have said: why not go for the supervisor position yourself?

I am thinking of a transition myself soon and I would hate to be marched out like your supervisor was. I am sure they had good reasons, but geeze that's harsh. I wonder if a condolence card to her would be good Karma....perhaps a card with a tartan on it? :-)

Thanks for the vote of confidence Ozone. The irony is that I did put in for the position last fall....despite being in great dread of the Peter Principle (employees rise to their level of incompetence).

When management's interview team interviewed her they were so taken that they hired her immediately and interviewed no other candidates. I was not even interviewed. Hoping that management learned something from this adventure too.

I continue to fear the Peter Principle and have so far decided not to put in for the position again. Management knows me well - even better than before. They still have my application which included extensive views on how I felt the person in the position could best benefit the agency.

It seems silly to me to move from a full time clinical position in a niche position working with alcoholics and sex offenders in the criminal justice system (mostly DUIs and underage drinkers 18-21, fortunately not too many sex offenders in our little town) to attending "harrump-harrump" meetings 135 miles away, driving back and forth to our three agency branches in the hinterlands in Fredonia, Colorado City, and Littlefield, Arizona - 75, 100, and 180 miles away respectively, auditing paperwork, and learning new mandated State systems as they filter down from Phoenix.

The other therapists are well qualified and certainly don't need clinical education or much supervision. Another irony of this sadness was that our clinical department ran the smoothest in the six months it was unsupervised - before she was hired.

Hopefully, the kilt issue is well resolved. Management has seen my logic for wearing kilts - comfort - culture - fashion. But I'm not sure they want me kilted in those Flagstaff meetings as a representative of the agency. I have been to many trainings down there kilted...but not management harrump-harrump meetings.

I figure if they want me, they'll ask. Maybe not a proactive move, but a wise Peter Principle move that leaves me working at my level of competence, rather than incompetence.
