Absolutely fabulous scenery and very interesting captions. That old railway tunnel fascinates me, especially with the daylight at the far end.

C152T, lower down in another city park, part of the old rail bed is now a hiking and biking trail while another part is one of the roads into the park and has 2 or 3 tunnels you drive through. I believe the hiking trail also has some tunnels. The one in the picture was part of the highway but became unsafe about 8 years ago so they closed it off and ran the road around it.

That really takes me back. I was stationed at Ft Cartoon on 1975-78, and went to all those places many times. But I kept waiting for a shot of the kissing camels at the GOG. I assume they are still there? I mean, they already lasted over 250,000,000 years, so what's another 30?

Turpin, if you look real close at the top of the red formation in the third pic you will see them....

Livingston,
Thanks for the walk down memory lane. I lived in Denver for a little over a year when I was a kid and fortunately my family and I visited some of these places, not to mention many, many more. I can still recall the wonderful experiences I had during my brief time there as a child (skiing, hiking, camping, fishing, kayaking, panning for gold, etc, etc), and hopefully I'll be able to visit with my wife and daughter some day.
While most people think of the Rocky Mountains when they think of Colorado they don't realize that (to the east of the range) almost half of the state is wide open plains that seem to go on forever. It's there that I remember watching a herd of bison roaming free...an incredible site to behold, especially when it's been estimated that the population of the bison would have once filled the state of Montana!
Thanks again for posting the photos...it does my heart good to see pics of our country's own "Highlands" (I think our Colorado Xmarkers will agree with that bias).
Cheers.
