Congratualtions on the home-altered jacket, David.
Fiorst reactin to your photo : It looks better than the model photo previously posted.
I went back to compare the two and realized they were the same model, but yours looks better because no waistcoat.
I don't really understand why men think it necessary to wear two layers of cloth round their top half.

part 2:
I also noticed the model has a half hidden belt under his waistcoat... inb spite of what a lot of Xmarkers think about such a combination!
Again, David's outfit looks better, imho, showing a whole belt buckle and no waistcoat.

In the name of all things holy, DO NOT WEAR A REGULAR SUIT JACKET. It's kine of like wetting your pants in the 1st grade; you'll never live it down.
Why not get one of those short tux jackets like waiters wear. You can score one pretty cheap.
Oh, I see Shriner already thought of that.

Honestly, you don't really need a Prince Charlie jacket, either. Unless you're going to a wedding, there's very few occasions when you would wear one. Get an Argyll jacket. They're far more versatile, and I think they look better.

A black vest with silver/pewter buttons and a long-sleeved white shirt and a regimental striped tie looks pretty darned sharp, too.

The differences between a 'normal' jacket and a proper kilt jacket are that the kilt jacket is shorter, so as not to interfere with the pleats and stop them from opening out, and also that the front of the jacket is cut away so as not to interfere with the sporran. This is why the kilt always looks better with a proper jacket.
The Kilt is my delight !
