Hey guys!!!!!
I left Sat and didn't get back till Mon.
i scanned in the few minute intervals I had (and missed this thread).
Until that pic, I had not realized HOW MUCH RED we all had on that day. Also, there are 3/THREE Carolina kilts, a rarity as it is not milled much (Matt and mine are from a special run in Lochcarron 16oz wool and Tartanhiker's is a cotton X Kilt variation. The difference in tones is AMAZING.
While on color . . . one of the Lewis Hose tones at the Tartan Museum is the PERFECT match for the gray-ish/purple-ish blue in the X Marks tartan!!! How is THAT for a good find?
It was GREAT meeting everyone!!!
In the tent next door was Bob Martin, author and reviver of the box-pleat kilt, who I got to talk to for a couple hours and learned SO MUCH.
I missed Friday (Lived just far enough that it was NOT a good night to "run-off" when I had been GONE the week before and the 3 days following), so I missed Hunting MacLeod.
On Sat, I got to hear Albannach, and think they are worth all the hype. GREAT energy. Their CD will be PERFECT for "spirited" driving along twisty mountain roads!!!
On Dread, he stayed home, as he was worried that the sweat would be bad for Jadewink's recovery and he did NOT want to leave her all day.
I DID see SEVERAL X Markers who have not posted in a while, due to work and family-related time constraints (priorities, priorities). Kilted Goth passes along a "Hi."
It seems Greenville is seeking to turn the Southeast's "Big 4" (Grandfather, Charleston, Loch Norman, and Stone Mountain) into the "Big 5." We'll see how they do over the next few years. I'm curious when the "curiosity factor" wears-off, as there were not THAT many actually IN kilts, how the games will be in the long term.
Again, I had fun meeting everyone.

Great pics, Ken. Thanks for sharing. It was nice to meet some new X-Markers and great to see the ones I've already met again! What a nice group of people we are, huh?
Yes, the Greenville games seem to be really well attended for being so young, but like MacWage mentioned there did not seem to be as many in kilts as in other games I've been to. Maybe just a lot of upstaters just wanted something to do on a Saturday afternoon! Hopefully the kilt wearing in Greenville will pick up in the future!

Well, if we can get them to come out the first time, they are ripe for recruiting. Besides, it is a nice family outing, whatever you wear. We just need to let them know how much cooler we are in our kilts!

Heck, you didn't see me out in the sun more than was absolutely necessary; and I was born here! These guys display a high order of intelligence (waiting in the shade to take the field).

Yes, and with all the pipers about, it felt as though we had a kilted majority (even if the spectators did not hold up their end).
Besides all the young ladies playing pipes, I saw two liberated girls in Utilikilts!

Sorry I couldn't get away from the field to come up where the tents were and meet up with ya'll.
If anyone is interested, this is my recap of the Heavy Athletics...
I worked the athletics all day, (a twelve hour shift in the sun) so I was unable to go see the bands, tents or vendors at all.
Review of the athletics: Two groups, the first were the Invitational athletes (A Group), and the second were the amateurs(B Group). The B group was so large that it had to be separated into two sections of 9 men each.
The Invitational Athletes went up against a caber that weight in over 130lbs. They were amazing, particularly Burt Sorin who walked away with most of the gold for the day.
Most impressive though, was in the B group. For all you guys who look at the men throwing cabers, hammers and weights and say you can't do that for whatever reason, I want you to keep this in mind. There was an 83 year old man out competing in the G-games. (He turns 84 next week) Yes, you heard me right, 83 and he did rather well.
Glenn King took most of the gold, and Billy Wallace was on his heels with the silver. (Billy is opening a new restaurant in Wallhalla soon called Oconee Belles that we will have to have a kilt night at)
Aside from dodging out of the way of one caber I faired well for the day with no other close calls. I was depleted, tired and a bit put off by how certain things were done by the event staff but enjoyed the athletics portion and had an overall great day.
