What comes across from certain individuals is that every one of us should, and would wear an 8 yard,16oz wool kilt, plus all the other accoutrements of formal dress if we only could. Is that truly the goal of us all?
Nope. But it's good to have a full range of choices available and advice on how to put together any kind of kilted outfit from the most casual to the most formal.
And like any other aspect of life, advice is what you start with, but your own style is what you work towards.

Well, I am a professional trainer, and it is fact that written communtication can only get across a message with only about 30 percent of the effectiveness of face to face verbal interaction.
We humans depend on the non-verbals (body language) and even the speeed, tone, timing, and volume of speech, much more than the words themselves.
So, my advice is just to take the time to re-read your post before you actually put it up to make sure it is the best you can get your point across.
....My two cents anyhow....

I only wear wool kilts, (mainly 9yds), & I don't appoligise for it, but this does not mean that I don't like to see other people wear modern kilts. I also wear my kilts both casual & formal & I love all of it. This forum is set up to promote kilt wearing & gives advice to anyone who asks for it. When someone asks for help to put together an outfit, everyone give there opinion & the benifit of their experiance, this does not mean that they are snobbish

I really don't think anyone meant to upset you, just to give their own views on kilts. You don't have to take their advice but it is offered in good spirit if you want it

I'll have to put myself in the traditionalist group of kilt wearers. I wear kilt to many different Scottish events such a highland games, participate in several kirk'ins, attend some formal events and even wear the kilt sometimes just because I want too. I only own two kilts, so the tartans I wear were chosen because of my hereditary connection to both of them. When I had these kilts made I chose to go with the traditional knife pleat pattern. That was my personal preference. There is a 16 oz Matt Newsome box pleat on my wish list.
All of us here on X marks have one thing in common, we enjoy wearing kilts. There are many different styles of kilts out there, it is up to each individual to decide which type of kilt, material and tartan best fit his life style, personal preferences and budget.
As you hang around here for a while, you will find that we we all have quite a bit in common, get along very well considering the diversity of the group, our opinions and our geographic distance from each other.
You will have the opportunity to meet some of your fellow X-markers at the highland games and other events, you will find they are all great people. This forum is definitely one of the best around. The moderators do a fantastic job of keeping all of us in line.

having thought about making a reply to this.... I will say that yes, some people can come across a bit snobbish at times... there are some that feel the need to correct others on the way they wear their kilt... or to point out little thing that THEY feel would make the outfit look better... just like there are some that don't feel that a Utilikilt is a real kilt... BUT... having been around large message boards for years...and even running a few of them..you have to learn to take everything with a big grain of salt.. you can't please everyone and everyone can't please you. if we could, then we'd all look exactly alike and well... that would be boring.
What looks great to you may not look good to another... and sometimes they'll tell ya about it.. in the end, the only thing that matters is that YOU like the way it looks and that you have tossed the pants aside and wrapped a kilt around your waist.. for ME, I personally love the look of a UK.. yet I will add a traditional kilt or 2 to my wardrobe at some point.. of course, I seriously doubt I'll wear hose and flashes or a PC, that's just not my style... I don't go pub crawling...and don't just wear a UK to lounge around in.. I wear a kilt every day.. unless of course I have to go into the office for training or something... then I'm forced back into pants since the company won't allow kilts.. but that's ok too...
Don't get me wrong, I think that the hose and flashes and PC look great... for others, that is their preference and more power to them. the one thing we all have in common is that we all wear kilts...regardless of heritage..regardless of what tartan...or lack of tartan, we are all kilted...
