Seems to be a rather large trend on your side of the pond, actually, but not as much so here. The tie itself is actually pre-tied, with a solid uniform band around the back so it can be worn without a lay-down collar.

Can definitely appreciate your point, though, as in many regards i'm a traditionalist when it comes to my daily business wear. That, and I have a similar feeling when I see a lay-down collar and a bow tie (to each, their own).

Well, it was a company outing, and i'm management... nobody had the moxy to say too much. Out of 300+ people, I was the only one kilted... but, its also not the first company event i've gone to that way. Although, my CEO *did* make a point of introducing me to his wife before they left... first time in 3 years that i've had a chance to meet her.

I usually save the black hose for when I wear my Black Stewart... although, I suppose I could have also worn my red hose... *ponders that for next time*

    Thanks All!

    BC Tartan

Went up to Burnett-Struth in Barrie and ordered a casual based on your comments. Purchased the MacDonnel of Glengary. The kilts on the rack looked very well done and I look forward to delivery before Xmas. I like the 5 yard-16oz scottish tartan as it is a good compromise on weight and the need for quality, all for $200.

I have been sitting on the fence regarding getting one of Burnett-Struth kilts. After seeing yours and McMurdo's, and how great they look, I may have to get myself a nice Christmas present!

    The entire outfit looks great.

Looks great, almost as beautiful as the Ontario tartan . Really congratulations and no more slagging B.C. I promise. It really does look wonderful and I'm glad you're happy with it. I just hope all that rain doesn't wash those wonderful colours away.

And here you have stated the reasons why so many of us will say, "If you can swing it, make your first kilt a tank." I blew a lot of money on casual, contemporary, and lesser quality kilts first, thinking I was working my way into something, only to find that, well, I blew a lot of money on casual, contemporary*, and lesser quality kilts once I got my first made-to-measure tank. It is like wearing a work of art. So now I'm saving my pocket change for more kilts with no pockets.

(*But different strokes for different folks: if I didn't have the contemporary ones, I'd probably pine for them, too.)

You look great, by the way. And while I, too, prefer the lay-down collar with black tie, I like how you mixed up your wing-collar with the long tie.

    Regards,
    Rex.

Isn't that why they invented Scotchgard?
