I was asked the question by a guy from my church this past weekend at a Christmas party...I tried not answering directly...but I was "hounded" for not answering straight-forward (people who know me learn that I rarely answer anything straight-forward). So, I reluctantly did tell. Fortunantly, we all had a good laugh about it and had a good discussion on kilts.

I have pondered this question quite a bit since I got my first kilt. I have a friend at work who seems to have issues with my choice of clothing. Every time we have a function where civilian clothes are a choice, I ask if this is a chance for me to show my Scottish heritage. She always answers with a very quick, loud, and absolute NO! At first it was a cute joke, but now it's becoming insistant and annoying. She doesn't out rank me, she doesn't hold a position above mine, and she definately doesn't write my NCOER. Who is she to tell me I can't wear a kilt? As for "The Question" I have been thinking of using the answer "when you find out what that lady over there is wearing under her skirt, I'll tell you what I'm wearing under my kilt". Do you think that will go over very well?

I always answer all forms of "The Question" the same way. I drop my voice to a conspiratorial stage whisper, loud enough for all around to hear and I answer: "Underneath my clothes I'm completely naked." Sometimes they get and sometimes they don't.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Now bear in mind that I have known this woman and her husband for 20 years. Their son and ours were members of the same Cub Pack and Scout Troop and we have been parishioners at the same church for 16 years. I treasure their friendship, but from this woman I do not expect tact.

So I replied, "Ask away," and she responded, "Are you wearing underwear under that thing?"

Well, I was. I always do when I first venture into a new environment and am not certain what to expect. So I replied, "Yes!" and she turned away in silence and obvious annoyance; I had spoiled her fun. I think the rest of the Group were pleased that that subject had been dismissed so quickly, because it did not arise again. Sometimes it is best to "take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing, end them."

Why would that question make anybody angry.......? Is my question....It only made her angry....

    You done good.

But I'd have had to ask her is she had on any underwear. And I'd have been her pastor.

Tell her she can't wear pants or be obnoxious anymore.

Mine does outrank me six months time-in-grade though....ouch, it's not that the females generally run the household, it's the fact that it my household, it's recognized by the DoD.........
