I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Our Texas Ren Fest is held in October and November about 30 miles north of Houston. The weather varies quite a bit at that time of year, so we have to careful what weekend works best for the great kilt. I like to wear the Medieval Moc boots that are similar to what you linked.

In terms of boots, I like to wear my O.D. Altama Jungle Boots with my Douglas Modern. I'm also a big fan of those Palladium ankle boots, the Israeli "Scout" commando boots, in black. The uppers are all canvas, super comfy. Great for the summer months.
You can find 'em on ebay for about $20 brand new!!!!

For piping in parades, I sometimes wear whiite spats and a pair of patent leather parade shoes, which I purchased from the Army Navy Surplus store. They are surprisingly comfortable.

In 1547 a member of the French court accompanied King James V on a tour of the Scottish kingdom. His published account of the trip mentions the "Wild Scots" (highlanders) wearing "boots made in an old-fashioned way, which come as high as their knees."
So apparently those high moccasins many wear at RenFairs arguably have some historic correctness, though who knows how the "old-fashioned" boots were constructed...!

The natives called them 'currans'.

I found an old pic of me in my great kilt and my Medieval Mocassins when I was with a Jacobite re-enactment group. I'm the one in the background facing, more or less, the camera.

"currans" or "cuarans" are more properly the low cut "bag shoes" or moccasins, often construsted with the hair left on the hide (the hair to the outside).
