It would be nice to have a kilt belt, in case you wanted to wear one for some reason.
I started out belting everything...but I have a beer belly and from suggestions on this board went to trying letting the kilt straps do their job without a belt and find it much more comfortable and much better looking. I seldom wear a belt with my tartan kilts anymore.
I'm guessing the Caledonian modern is gonna be a hand sewn kilt so will be to your body size. Unless you're real skinny and worry about the kilt sliding off you'll not need a belt.
I still don't have a fancy kilt belt with an elaborate buckle. I like AmeriKilts basic belts. Work fine for me when needed.

So much good information to be shared, isn't there?
While belts are optional, I notice that in this thread (and others) that some say no belt needs to be worn when wearing a waistcoat...I happen to like wearing a belt with a waistcoat. Yeah, I know...I'm just strange.
Now, you say this is for casual wear. For that, I'd look for a day belt with a simple one or two prong buckle rather than a belt with a "dressy" or "formal" buckle. Just my take on things.
Cheers.

That's the essence of the matter IMHO.

As for belts it seems that everyone has their own opion of them so there is not much else I could add.

The problem with that is the waistcoat doesn't lay as it should.
Also, if worn both are worn properly, the waistcoat covers most of the buckle anyway. The belt doesn't help keep the kilt up, so if you can't see it what's the point?

For most people that would work since if they wear a dress sporran they are likely wearing a PC which has a waistcoat so no belt is needed. Where it doesn't work is for those of use who wear doublets. You really need to wear a belt with a Montrose and that is when I wear my dressiest sporrans. You just need to be careful.

As everyone has said, a belt is not really necessary, provided the kilt fits right. However, I personally find that a belt "finishes" the traditional kilt look, so I tend to wear one whenever I am kilted. The exception is if I am wearing a waistcoat, which covers the belt anyway, or a sweater or another similar garment untucked, as this also covers the belt.

I follow the old rules as much as I can - nothing covers the belt buckle. Option a) with waist coat - no belt is preferred. Option b) If waist coat is worn with belt, then it should be tucked under the belt - which will really get some looks and doesn't look good in my opinion. But these are old rules.
I think Option a is the best way to go if a waist coat is worn.
