Two excapees from the local brain trust were in Target about a year ago. The guy was talking to the girl and said "He must be from Ireland" and some more I couldn't make out. Then she says "Shhhh! I think they speak English in Ireland!"

And the two escapees couldn't understand you if you used proper English anyway. While in the Air Force I spent a tour in the U.K., then came home on leave, and promptly messed up the minds of the locals at the neighbourhood bar, by speaking real English. They never even got to bother me about the kilt.

Well, depending on where in Ireland you go it can be hard to tell one way or the other.
I get the Irish comments and questions as often as the Scottish ones, but at least they're close.
One girl asked me "is that... Irish?" referring to my black sk, and being a mischievous little b@$!@%& I told her "no, actually it's Japanese" "Really?" "Oh yeah, they're really popular over there." I went on to explain that the Japanese are always a few years ahead of us and that it wouldn't be long before everyone over here was wearing one. I still can't believe she bought it.
After reading a few of these stories all I could think of was Jim Gaffigan's bit about easter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjJCIbC9sxA&NR=1

Similar to one I got an hour into a flight from LA to New York. My seat mate asked why I was wearing the kilt. I explained that I was originally from Scotland. The reply, "How long have you been here? You speak English wonderfully". It was a very long flight.

can i get some money from you?
I had a random guy ask "can i get some money from you?"
I started my standard, well, I don't really have any spare change homeless-guy speech, when finally he explained that he wanted to buy some scottish money off of me for a collector item. He was badly disappointed....

I was playing on-line poker a few nights ago when I noticed this guy was using Celtic as his poker room name.
I asked-Why the name?,and he said he loved Scotish history.
I asked if he owned a kilt an he laughed an said "No way.I would'nt dare go out in a kilt here in Germany, and would not know where to buy a kilt if I wanted to."
When I told him I own several Kilts an plan to buy a lot more, another guy interupted an asked if I live in France. FRANCE? LOL
They were both taken aback when I told them I live in the States, wear kilts all the time,
and that they are becoming more popular all the time here.
I don't think either believed it so I reffered them to this website.
So if you see a guy named Celtic or Jojo, tell them Tommie says hey.
Still have'nt got over the France question.
