I've only seen that done once.

The bride was wearing a formal woman's sash over her wedding dress, with broach at the hip. She unpinned her broach and her groom gathered her sash, pulling it over her shoulder while folding it neatly. Her father stepped forward and the groom handed her sash to her dad.

The groom was wearing an 'old school' plaid folded over the shoulder, not a fly plaid. I didn't even realize that it was a woman's sash length until he shook it out and put it on her, pinning it back with her broach. I'm pretty sure it was a generic 'celtic' broach, not a proper clan broach.

It was done just before the kiss and presentation of the new couple to the congregation.

Hopefully if there is any "proper" ceremony somebody else can mention it.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! May all your days be bright and your nights peaceful.

We weren't aware of any special ceremony when we tied the knot. I think it was after we were declared married, my son handed me the sash, with the pin already holding it together in a loop. I put it over my new bride's lovely head, straightened it on her shoulder, and kissed her!

My parents came over with an early wedding present...

They knew our grill was shot.

So we had to try it out tonight...
