I've always been a Pusser's man myself, even though I know it's not the same as the original Navy Rum issued by the Royal Navy. Pusser's has a delightful page on their web site about Navy Rum folklore that's worth perusing if you're a rum rat:

I still use a Pusser's tin mug at the Games...
For mixing Cuba Libres, Cruzan makes a nice Estate Dark Rum. My wife used to live literaly just down the road from Cruzan distillery on St. Croix, btw. I still need to try their Black Strap rum...
Splice the Mainbrace!

Sailor Rum
I will add my votes to those for Pussers and Sailor Jerry. IMO the Pussers is smoother. Another option with a similar flavor is the Capt. Morgan Tattoo.
There is a great anecdote on the internet of the fluid supplies of one of the early US Frigates [possibly the Constitution]. It left homeport with xx gallons of Rum, water and grog. Through the course of the cruise she took on everything except water and returned home "dry" with the exception of the water. She returned home with all of the water and none had been consumed.
