The length of Jacket sleeves has gone up and down as fashion changes.

The current length that shows 1" of shirt cuff was started by Johnny Carson of The Late Show fame.

He liked to "shoot" his cuffs and thought 3 to 4 inches of shirt sleeve showing when he raised his arms looked balanced (White of shirt sleeve to white of shirt collar) on camera.

Before Johnny however Jacket cuffs were correctly worn between the first and second knuckle of the thumb.

I remember when I was fitted for my Dress Blues I asked the tailor the correct length of the sleeve and was told the second knuckle of the thumb.

Years later I asked the tailor making my Savile Row Suit and he said the exact same thing.

I have worn all my Jacket sleeves at this length ever since.

At this length you see no shirt sleeve when standing with the arm at the side. When you bring your arms up you should see 2-3" of shirt cuff.

My sport and suit jackets are all second hand, so I have had to hem all their sleves. I put them right at the joint of the wrist or slightly longer. I guess that is at the first nuckle of the thumb. Then, I wear my shirt sleves somewhere between the first and second nuckle; if I have the nuckle terms correct. That would show around an inch of shirt sleve with my arms at the sides.

So ya man, I show sleve.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Great shot, great look, but us other vets need to see a front shot to see where you've been and what you done with the chest salad. Doin' all military and vets proud in that shot!
If they outlaw guns, can we go back to using swords?
