Five against a four inch blade, my money would be on the thugs. Five against a big burly kilted guy with cane and a knife? I'd put my money on the big burly kilted guy with cane and a knife. Certainly did mind**** these five. Way to go.

Good show!
Even better advice, from experience, is to always observe your surroundings. Be aware. Look for escape routes. See the danger before it sees you and you can easily avoid it.
Predators (the wolves) are always looking for the easy prey (the sheep) that are busy trying to be invisible and usually looking at the ground in front of them. Once that easy prey is spotted, the stalking begins. Once at a place of the wolf's choosing, the attack is made.
Especially when the wolf is in his pack.
Show your teeth and the pack/wolf will often times retreat...

Good story. I agree that most people would probably lose interest if you show a little fight. They only want the easy ones.

Took my walk a little later today at the same park, and 2 city police cruisers drove through quite slowly. They do make daily rounds through the park, but it's the first time I've seen 2 cruisers come through at the same time. Somethings up, but nothing mentioned on the local TV station or in the paper.
I can understand Panache's advice, but that's just not me. I'm a disabled old f**t (61), but there was no way I was going to back down from these 5 punks. Must be that small percentage of Scottish Kennedy blood that I have.

From the perspective of the other side within the rules:
Old Fart in a kilt with a walking stick. Displays a knife from his person into the table. Obviously not afraid to display this weapon. What others might there be. Do I really want to know? NO. leave without getting hurt.
Should not offend the rules. But the point is the "victim" didn't run. That scares the s**t out of most gangbangers.

I'm 21 years old, 6'1", 230 lbs., and I probably wouldn't done the same thing. Just shows them that you're not gonna take any of their s**t.

a long time ago ( like 10 years ) I had a run in with some thugs (3) while I was driving. I was in a bad mood anyways so when I pulled over and got out of my vehicle they pulled over and started getting out I pretty much told them to bring it.
one of em had a bat or stick of some kind. I looked at him and said " oh you want to play it that way? " and went back to my door and got out a tire Iron, swung it into the spare tire on the back of my vehicle and said lets go! they looked at each other, got back in their car and drove off. I was about 20, they looked to be just out of high school and obviously had too much time on their hands to be looking for trouble.
I think you handled it well. when they know there might actually be some WORK involved they tend to go the other way.....

Excellent! Don't know what I would have done in your place, probably tried to look tough, though I don't think I would have brought my sgian dubh with me. I would defend myself in any way necessary, though, if I had to.
