I like that.
"Nice skirt."
"Thanks, and those are nice pants you're wearing. My wife (girlfriend/sister/mom/whatever) has a pair just like them."

Great comment on your part, and an accurate comment on your gf's father's part. Congratulations to both of you.

I was playing on line poker last night when i noticed this young las was from Scotland.
We struck up a conversation and soon the subject of kilts came up and i told her i own several and wear them all the time.
You mean kilts made here in Scotland?,and i said no,most are made here in the USA,but hopefully some day i can purchase one from there.
Then this wize guy hones in and says " Do you mean those skirt things men wear in Scotland?....and i said "No. I mean those kilts that a lot of guys here in the USA and most every where else in the world wear because they like them.
Then he says "NOT ME. To much like a sissy.
Then woa.The Las jumps in. "I BEG YOU PARDON.There is nothing about a man in a kilt being SISSY SIR. And keep your opinions to yourself when you have no idea what you are talking about"
I thanked her for that and the guy left.
We had a nice conversation after that.

Quilty as charged!
[QUOTE=Panache;568758]Slightly off topic here, but along the lines of "nice skirt" how many have received the compliment:
"Nice Quilt"

I work with a woman from Denmark, and because of her thick acccent she keeps referring to my kilt as a "quilt". I told her if she keeps saying that I'm going to show up wrapped in a bedspread! She laughed and turned beet red.
As for the smart a** who referred to it as a skirt, I usually answer, "If I wanted to dress like a woman, I'd be wearing pants like you". You handled that beautifully.
Cheers!

Nice skilt.
I have heard that once as a person was correcting themselves mid-word. Then turning a little red.
Nice Quilt.
I hear it often as many here in New England hear the word "quilt" quite often, and kinda let it slip in reference to the kilt.
Nice skirt.
see many threads on that one.
It was handled very well in this case. Most important it adequately impressed the gf's family.

I replied as I kept walking inside, "Good thing I am Scottish then."
Good thinking on that one.:buttkick:

I have always been partial to the reply "Looks like public school struck again." Bearing in mind that I am a product of the public schools myself.

I once did get the "nice quilt" comment from a woman who was getting into her Subaru as I was getting out of my car. Got a good laugh out of that one...
