Welcome from Northern Colorado! I agree with the others, a good pair of kilt hose will take care of the legs as they get a chance to tan a bit. Kilt On!

    from South Wales UK!

Kilt wearing will improve leg colour no end as the ravages of trouser wearing which have kept them from sunlight are lessened!

    enjoy wearing

Oldun, just enjoy wearing it. When it comes, wear it around the house a few times, order colored hose, and just have fun.

Now today my mind starts to work against me.....My pasty white legs, what will people say, and possibly the big question - regimental or not.

A little encouragement would be appreciated.
First of all, at the Dayton Celtic Festival NO ONE is going to ask you The Question, and whether you do or don't is up to you (but I'd like to suggest you give it a go just to slake your curiosity). You will not look at all out of place, no one cares about your legs more than you do, and if you have to stop somewhere along the way and someone looks cross-ways at you, simply say you are going to volunteer at the festival and ask if they'd like directions.

Second, if you need some accessories in advance of the festival, go visit The Celtic Isles shop, now in Beavercreek. They are closed today (the 19th) and tomorrow, and they'll be closed for the festival because they'll have a booth there. But you can find all of whatever you think you'll need there.

If I can make it, it will only be on Sunday, since I've got obligations with the Cincinnati Pops and May Festival Summer Chorus on Saturday.

    Relax and have fun!

    Regards,
    Rex.
At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

    First to the rabble.

The Celtic Games is a perfect place to start wearing the kilt. There will be many just like you who are venturing out for the first time kilted so you won't need to feel at all out of place. A good pair of kilt hose and flashes will help to ease your mind about the colour of your legs. Trust me, no one will notice that your legs are not completely tanned, and as others have said the more you wear your kilt out the more tan your legs will become. I'd suggest if you have not got one yet to get an inexpensive sporran and belt. As Scot Jock said wear your kilt in a pretty traditional manner until you get used to it. This helped me to get used to the kilt as an article of clothing to be proud of and put out the thoughts of "costume" from anyone else's mind. Most of all, walk tall, have self confidence, and remember to smile and have a great time!

Actually, rather than seeing yourself in a mirror, I've found that seeing your reflection in a store window or a glass building's ground floor (and we have puh-lenty of those in Chicago!) gives you a better idea of the whole effect. I think it's because you're a bit farther off and the perspective is better...but you'll see...it does give you a whole new perspective on yourself.

And as to the pasty legs...to quote the oft-quoted and mis-quoted bit: wear sunscreen! Take it from another person of the so-white-that-they-often-look-blue persuasion, there is nothing worse than getting a sunburn on the backs of yer knees and then for the rest of the day having kilt fabric brushing across it as you walk...eee-yow!

I think it was Billy Connolly that said something about the Scots actually being blue and having to lay out in the sun for a couple of days just to get white.

But you'll definitely enjoy being kilted at a fest or any other time.

    Best
