Aw, man...
That really saddens me.
My dogs are my fuzzy children... I can't imagine having to make a choice like that, about a family member.

Arlen,
I am so sorry you have to leave Pip behind. I hope that he can be found by someone he can love as well as he loves you. I understand that he is not as important as your wife, but that you are torn by this decision.
We look forward to meeting you.
Be well,
Star

As a veterinarian, I resent the implication that we "murder" pets. I feel that allocating funds for the care of 10 or more, young, healthy, good-natured pets rather than one older pet with ill health is a wrenching and horrible decision for those who work in these so called "murder" adoption centers, and judging them as murderers is hasty and cruel.
I also feel that euthanasia of vicious or unsocializable animals is appropriate, rather than putting people in danger. Maybe I'm a bit biased as I was bitten in the face by a dog today, but I hope some can see my point.
Arlen, I'm sorry if I hijacked this thread in any way.
Be well,

Am I hi-jacking a thread already hi-jacked? I hope not, so:
Arlen, please know that most of us understand the heart-wrenching grief that comes from having to choose. Our thoughts are with you.
F-H.C.A.G, rest easy, please. Euthanasia is a wonderful resolve for those who must watch -- but not intimately experience -- never-ending pain and, perhaps, for those who are living it. Capital punishment for humans and other animals is anentirely seperate issue. I am absolutely certain you will agree, and propose a seperate thread if you think that is appropriate.

Jock Scot has said exactly what I was thinking also. Hopefully enough of us on the rabble can send enough good vibes that ensure Pip goes to a good home. And I am pleased that all your other problems with the INS are almost behind you now. Just one more flight..........

My heart goes out to you on Pip. It is always very hard. But look to the future, and dwell on the past only when necessary. I do not mean "forget" that cannot be done, but to dwell on the past entirely can become corrosive.
Best wishes for a bright future for you and your bride.

Thanks for all the warm wishes and consolation.
I arrived safe and well last night and got a decent night's sleep after a verrrrry long journey.
It was a horrible decision to have to make, but after 10 months I just couldn't leave Diane hanging anymore.
Pip is a wonderful dog an I know that whoever does rehome him will love him just as much as I do. He will be well cared for and that's what matters.
As for me, I am just adjusting to this thing you Americans call sunshine...

Hey, you're here! In the US, I mean. Can't wait to hear all about your wacky Idaho adventures. Take some photos of the area so we can check out your new digs.
