AS OF THIS MORNING 10/17/08..
I talked with Nancy around 11:00 today.
Results are very encouraging. Mike is opening his eyes now and then, and can track moving objects with his eyes. When Nancy asked him to open his eyes and look at her, he did that, though he had problems opening them. The surgeon says he is probably very, very tired. The point is that he has muscular control of his eyes, can hear Nancy, understand and respond. This is a *huge* improvement.
The piece of Mikes cranium has not been replaced, so it's in the -80 freezer to prevent tissue degradation. They will re-attach at some point when they're confident that Mike won't be having any more cranial blood clots. I assume Mikes head is anchored down so that he can't turn his head to the unprotected side.
Fingers crossed and all the mojo you can send is great!

Thank you for the continued updates, it is wonderful to hear of the encouraging results, nonetheless it also sounds serious therefore all my best to Mike and his family, he and they will be in both my thoughts and prayers.
