When I witness this kind of "bravery" and "intelligence," I'd just love to see them spending 10-12 weeks in boot camp answering to a Master Sergeant or Chief Petty Officer who tells them that "their sole purpose in life is to do exactly what I tell you to do."

I have had, in the just about a year of kilt wearing, only one really negative comment. While walking past a restaurant with outdoor sitting, one fellow in a group of college age people shouted out "Looks like we have a DRESS code violation here!" [his emphasis]. I turned and said "Children have dress codes, once you are a man, you will be able to wear whatever you like, including a kilt if you are man enough." A couple of the girls in the group almost fell out of their chairs laughing.

Good grief, a year and half. That happened to me the first time I wore a kilt.

While it is too bad that happened it must be remembered that they are kids with no life experience to draw from and probably no idea what a kilt is. It isn't them that are to be pitied so much as the parents who haven't taught them any better. The kids can still learn but the parents are past hope.

Hee Hee. Good response. If you can get the females of the troop to laugh, the alpha monkeys put their tail between their legs!
The occasional negative response is a side-effect of kilt-wearing; have a laugh, brush it off, and don't give it any more thought after the initial encounter.

The jock mentality is a truly wonderful thing, isn't it? :endsarcasm:
Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!

Sorry to hear that you had that kind of encounter. I usually kindly tell the person or persons that that is the typical thought coming out of the minds of the ill-informed and the un-educated. They just reinforce my desire to go kilted as often as possible.

Oh, I see. Thank you for enlightening me.
Was it not the native Americans that championed that style of fighting? I seem to recall something about that from my youth. I never was much good at history.
