Every victory in the workplace is a victory that will help someone else. Wearing your kilt while sharply dressed no doubt helped. Good on ya.

As mbhandy said, in Salt Lake City - even as a branch of a large firm - is an incredible victory and one that will help me down here next go around. A personal thank you for that.

Excellent outcome. Glad it turned out positive.

We have a dress code, but it does not mention kilts or shorts for men. I had asked about shorts during hot weather and was given the OK. Based on this approval, I started wearing kilts to work (law office) a couple times a week. This has been almost 3 years now. I don't like to wear the same one repeatedly, and I don't have enough to wear a different one every day. To date, my boss lady has never mentioned or commented on the kilts. I have even sat through a couple annual reviews while kilted. Most recent was about 3 weeks ago. I got a very favorable review and a 3.1% raise. While I doubt if the kilt had any impact, it sure didn't hurt.

Man, I can feel the tension. Seems we actually deal with this more than we know on a general basis. It's all about ignorance and the lack of someone knowing who they are. When I first donned the kilt, I felt like running through the woods with a sword. It's the most masculine article of clothing I own. If others understood their heritage as much as we do, things may be different. Until then, carry on the strong tradition! Good show, Chap ith:

Frequently with large companies they have to have non-gender specific dress policy. They also have to be wary of "discriminating". Law offices would also be wary of this. Kudo's to all the bosses out their who realise that these differences encourage better working relations. Well done chaps

I am part of a large retail chain. I manage a sales floor. Thus far, I have not gone kilted to work. I have been several times on my days off however.

I have wanted to bring it up, but have not thus far. We do have several "international Luncheons" throughout the year where we encourage team members to wear their national "costume." (their word not mine... I hate the connotation costume has.)

I do plan on wearing my Campbell Anc to the next one however. Hopefully from there I can begin to slowly infiltrate. The company tries to be mores...."traditional" and conservative. I would likely stick to tartan as I am generally in shirt and tie anyway. We are dealing with customers all day.

What a great response. What surprises me is that it's in Salt Lake City, where I would have assumed a much less liberal interpretation. Good for you., your manager, and the HR rep.

This is all too rare in today's job universe.

Yeah, are they hiring? Let's all make it a kilted office!
