Sounds like this would be a good personal quirk for your character. While not necessarily 100% accurate, this is a work of fiction which you are creating. As long as you can justify his reasons for going kilted full time, which shouldn't take too much of a stretch of the imagination to pull off then by all means go for it. There are many on this site who do wear kilts full time, although not any farmers that I am aware of.
BTW from rainny Illinois.

I normaly wear a kilt at least 2 days a week , on sundays and tuesdays also if I have got soume event or invite to a party I always go in a kilt, unfortunatly most people in scotland only wear kilts to weddings but I think this is changing when I go through to Glasgow (I live in Dundee) I normaly see soumone in a kilt

Whatever you decide make sure it is true to the character and you are consistent in applying said quirk to that character.

I know of at least one person in my home town, Ayr, who wears a kilt every day. He is a restarateur who originally wore it for a month to win a bet with friends and liked it so much that he gave up trousers! Maybe that could be reason enough for your character wearing the kilt full time, we'll do anything to win a bet!
On another note, my wife's family is from Chandler and both my MIL and SIL work for Sherriff Joe. I don't miss the heat but I do miss the food!
Don't forget to preview your book here!
"O, why the deuce should I repine, and be an ill foreboder?

Thanks--all if this info helps enormously!
Chandler is a great place, I don't miss the heat either, but there are a lot of great things about AZ that I do miss--this time of year especially is really nice!
I don't know if I could preview it here, but if it get's published you will all be the first (after my husband of course) to know--thanks for the support! Then again, if no one wants to publish it, I'll put it up for anyone who wants to read it.

There are two types of farmers in Scotland, lowland farmers with large, mainly arable farms and highland crofters with small farms raising mainly sheep and some cattle. The lowland farmers may well have kilts but they would never wear them while working on the farm but keep them for social occasions when they want to dress up. The highland farmers are unlikely to have kilts at all because they barely scrape a living from their crofts to feed themselves and their families and a luxury like a kilt would be beyond their reach. The other class of people connected to the land in Scotland are the people with loads of money like Mohammad Al-Fayed, the British Royals at Balmoral etc. who ponce around their estates in kilts once or twice a year pretending to be Scottish and inviting their friends, relations and other hangers-on to blast the local wildlife into oblivion.

Steady there Phil! There is another type of Scots farmer who makes a living from farming even further south and then chooses to spend his hard earned cash in the highlands where there is not a hope in h*** of the locals, or any one else for that matter, making any money there. Even by selling deer stalking, fishing, or grouse shooting. My word, it helps though!

Yes Jock, I know there are plenty of farmers from England, some of them Scots taking advantage of the once upon a time exceptionally generous EU grants (along with stockbrokers, City traders, Uncle Tom Cobley and all) who enjoy coming north to Scotland for the stalking, fishing etc. but they don't wear kilts either. The original poster was asking about kilt-wearing Scottish farmers.
