Welcome from Chicago. You might try going to the Tartan Ferret and under Tartan name type in Donegal or Galway. You will find tartans for each. This way you can honor your heritage and wear a kilt at the same time.

Welcome! Sounds like your first question was answered. Now you might want to ask where to buy, what to buy, or post a wanted ad. Hope you enjoy the forum!

    re-newbie with the big question

Thanks for all the replies. You have all been very helpful and I will be buying a kilt very soon. There are just so many different stores to choose from. Although, I think my first kilt will be the Irish National Tarten and then move on to County Galway and then County Donegal tarten. Also thank you for making me so welcome into this community of kilted friends. I will wear my kilt with pride in honor of the Ward family name and my Irish heritage.

say I'm not Scottish but I like to wear kilts and I'm Irish so I thought it made sense to wear Irish colors.
    I'd go with that one.

    Welcome aboard,

Perhaps you just need to explore your family tree a bit farther out the branches...most folks find Scots lurking somewhere in the family tree - particularly if there's Irish there already...

Meantime - ain't a darn thing wrong with kilts in Irish tartans. Two different mills thought up county tartans.

Here's a USA Kilts semi-trad model in Ireland's National tartan.

And here's the ever popular saffron kilt - another USA Kilts semi-trad

Ain't nothing wrong or "less than" about these kilts. What other think just doesn't matter. What does matter is if you like the tartan - for whatever reason.

from Scotland. Just like you don't need to be Scottish to join XMTS you also don't need to be Scottish to wear a kilt. So just do it.
