I like the blue one they have on their site (that's just me); however there is nothing wrong with the red one. As lethearen pointed out, it will pull out the red stripe in your tartan.

    Welcome from the Palmetto State!

I think it will look very good.

    I feel somewhat relieved!

It appears, based upon the responses, that I'm on the right track. I'll go ahead and order it.

As to the rest of the outfit, it'll be either Prince Charlie (if I rent from Scottish Tartans Museum) or Argyll (if I can twist my own arm hard enough to convince myself that I need it.)

    Thanks for all the help!!

Welcome from "famously hot" Columbia. We may be a little biased but I quite like your choice of tartan.

I believe that USA Kilts still has a killer sale price on both Argyll or Prince Charlie. The Argyll is the most flexible, it will match up with business suit or black tie.

Is your event an evening function?

I'm a bit biased toward it myself (Class of '87) Every time I see that tartan my mental soundtrack goes to "The Rowan Tree"...

Yes, it'll be an evening event. I'd really prefer the Prince Charlie, but I'm not sure I want to invest in one. Thus, if I buy, it'll likely be Argyll.

The Argyle will be more versatile, in that it's not a formal jacket. The PC is the equivalent of a tux jacket.

Yes, an argyll would be more sensible.

Generalizing just slightly, the PC is black-tie and nothing else. The black Argyll can serve for black tie; it looks especially sharp if you pair it with a 3-button vest like the PC. Unlike the PC, it can perform creditably as morning dress (daytime formal, as for a formal noon wedding), when set up with the right accessories.

Samples from the Formal style thread Cawdorian, without vest Pour1Malt with 3-button vest. Look farther down that thread, and there are probably some black-tie with 5-button vest, perhaps a white jabot also.

Yes, that sporran will work fine. A black colored sporran in the same style would also work, but the one that you have chosen might look very snazzy with that particular tartan.
