I now store the belt in the compartment between the seats.

I have a truck as well - I am of the step on the running board, butt in and sweep persuasion. Seems to work well. In my wife's car however, I have a bit of a drop before I hit the seat and this can mess up the sweep part. I sometimes find I have to do a rather inelegant reach between my legs and pull the pleats out so they don't bunch up under my butt in a very uncomfortable manner. I might try this belt sweep thing however. Seems like a simple solution.

A tea-towel on the other hand does work. I am working on putting a loop in each corner, so that after sitting and turning forwards, I will be able to pull the tea-towel out. This should act a kind of pleat sweep. If it works, I'll look round for a dark coloured tea-towel to modify (I think it would look better than a light coloured one).

You can pull the towel out from under you once you are in the seat, the kilt is bulky enough without the added bulk of a towel as well.
