This response back from the vendor as to the material and sizes.
"We sell them from small to 2xl. They are made of sueded pigskin."
The ad for them is in the current issue of True West Magazine which is devoted to the history of the Vaquero and how Vaquero's taught the Cowboys but seldom receive recognition for those contributions.
I only picked up on it due to the short jacket look. I'm wondering if a kilted gent walked in to the store and asked to try one on if maybe the store owner would run him out and refuse to sell.
I like the California/Arizona tartan ideas.
And, just for me, if its East of the continental divide its East...Central is on top of the continental divide and the Great Basin...West is West of the continental divide.

That is for your country, not mine, no matter how you see it I'm still in Southern Ontario, which is Central Canada, and Lake Ontario is still a lake

I haven't heard the word used much lately, but "buckaroo" is an anglicized form of vaquero.

Do you mean Great Plains rather than Great Basin? I would think of the Great Basin as being in the West. Otherwise, that's precisely how I tend to see things, although I'm not sure if many Texans would agree with me.
As for mixing cultural items, well, one could argue the t-shirt is a cultural item.

Well, Riverkilt, if the Vaquero jacket doesn't work out, you might consider a matador's outfit with the breeches exchanged for a red tartan kilt.
Kilted bull fighting? Wave your plaid at the bull?
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Hey cousin, thought you just married an American girl...doesn't that make you American too? Or her Canadian? Or both of you both??
Tell you what Ted, once was hiking down in what's now the Ironwood National Monument with a lady wearing bright red shorts. We came upon FOUR yearling bulls who immediately zoned in on her. I did some distraction work while she ran off and climbed through a barbed wire fence to safety. No way I'm gonna wear a red kilt around bulls...even with a Vaquero jacket...no thank you...not as young and fast as I used to be...Bulls are BIG when they're not in a corral...

Yes I married myself an American girl, but I'm still Canadian, see we are staying here so we are working towards getting her a dual citizenship.

Reading Lee Anderson's article, "The Vaquero, A World-Class Horseman," in the September 2009 Issue of True West Magazine I found this note.
"He [the vaquero] topped off his attire with...a Mexican short-jacket, because it didn't interfere with his riding or roping (modern Levi jackets are modeled after it)."
So this vaquero jacket would be the grandfather of the jean jackets many of us love wearing with our kilts.
Lee Anderson, of Glendale, Arizona is one of the Arizona Historical Society's "Amazing Arizonans." He presents living history on the vaquero for schools, non-profits, and special events.
And on geography, I did mean the Great Basin...really.
Do wish I was closer to the Bay area so I could try on a vaquero jacket with a kilt and just see how horrible they look together....

eastern Canada doesn't all necessarily vote "no"
that Vanquero jacket is sharp to be sure......would it go with a kilt in it's present state? Maybe not. But what if it was cut like a vanquero, but fashioned out of tweed or pin stripe suiting???
if you like the "style" and "cut" of something....then I think if you push the boundaries a bit, you can make it work for you.
Cloves, who loves mixing things up!
