I personally wouldn't want to fight in a sportkilt, it's a bit "flighty" in the wind if you know what I mean... ;)

Economy pros:
• sewn down pleats
• buckle closure
• belt loops
Economy cons:
• It'll cost me $20 that I could spend on a belt, sporran, and such
• Will it last long enough past when a Thrifty would die to justify the extra $20?
Thrifty pros:
• free, and if I can somehow add $10 to my $20, I can actually buy two
• it pretty much looks like a kilt
• I won't feel as bad if rocks on the ground or metal on an opponent put a couple holes in it
Thrifty cons:
• no sewn down pleats
• Velcro closure
• no belt loops
It's looking like the Black Watch tartan Stillwater Economy Kilt probably wins on aesthetics. I'll probably order my kilt tonight or tomorrow night, so if anyone needs to save me from a bad decision, before then would be the time to do it.
I recently got to thinking: for $18 more, I could have an Irish Saffron Standard, and for $30 more, I could have a Standard, and for $50 more than that, I could have a Heavy, and for... I could have an 8yd, 19oz wool tank. I think I'll try to avoid this mindset until I'm looking for kilts for daily wear that aren't going to get beat up by metal-clad combatants, though scrounging up an extra $18 may sell me on the Irish Saffron Standard (I'm mostly Irish, anyway).
