    Or,...
"Muted" could be used for banned members, "Hunting" could be used for lurkers, "Weathered" could be used for Kilted Nobles and below, and "Ancient" could be reserved for Kilted Elders and above.

That last bit would either increase the number of kilts on the for sale section or decrease the number of posts as memebers approached milestones.

The XMTS tartan is a beautiful tartan. Personally, I like the hunting tartan, but what are we hunting? (Can we hunt those internet spiders and bot things I see listed under the current users section at the bottom of the forums page? -pretty please???) I digress.....
Would I order it for a kilt? Sure, but I still need to get one in the original XMTS tartan first!

There is certainly nothing wrong with the original Xmarks tartan...it's pefectly lovely.

I only threw the idea out as a speculative thing.

That having been said (to use one of my mother's entirely non-favorite and useless phrases), should the opportunity arise, doing a new run in a variant color might not be the worst of ideas since both newbies and members who already have the original tartan might want in on it.

Not wanting to start trouble....but there are worse ideas.

I've wondered what the Xmarks tartan would look like in the old Wilson's of Bannockburn colors.

Hey! I kind of represent all of those suggestions. I do like the ancient version though. However, I need to get the original before I'd consider any of the others.

I think a couple of new tartans is a great idea. Especially for those who already have the Xmarks tartan and would like perhaps other colours & setts included for a slight variant for different types of wear. It would also provide others who may not like the original tartan as much to have a kilt made from it actually wish to have an Xmarks variant due to colour changes.
I feel that a further range of tartans would simply encourage further endorsement of the forum, where can never be a bad thing, can it?
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

Maybe a "Weathered" version could be reserved for retired or longstanding Forum Moderators for putting up with all our bull$%&# for so many years and still maintaining their dignity (well for the most part at least). I am sure those guys are pretty well worn out.

I like the XMTS tartan for what it is. I bought some yardage from the last run, and never knew about any symbolism behind the colours until I read this thread. Therefore, the meaningfulness of the XMTS tartan isn't restricted to any particular palette for me. I think the idea of Muted, Hunting, Ancient, etc is a wonderful idea! And for those who take pride and pleasure in the symbolism of the original colour palette, they will always have the original (modern). I too would love to see some variations on the XMTS tartan. I wonder what a Dress XMTS tartan would look like, for instance.
