Hi, Squishy, and welcome to XMTS from the bottom end of Africa.
Like you, I wore a kilt a long time ago. But it began when I was 19, and I kept the tank until my military service was over. With great reluctance I handed it in when I was 29.
I am hopeful of getting a kilt of my own next year. Perhaps you will already be wearing one by then.
Glasgow has a whole string of tartans you can choose from, besides the possibilities offered by clan and family setts.
Go for it!
Regards,
Mike
PS: “Tank” is the term used around here for an eight-yard kilt made of 16oz wool. It can be pretty heavy! But it is a pleasure to wear one.
The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life.

Forgot to mention something that might be of interest to Squishy:
Port Elizabeth is home to one of the oldest snake parks in the southern hemisphere. The herpetologist on the staff is a world renowned expert on animals in this field.
If you ever come to Africa, you will have to pay a visit there. The snake part is part of the city museum, which is known as Bayworld.
Regards,
Mike

I will certainly be paying a visit. It's on my list lol. Need to go through Australia, vietnam, burma (to be honest most of south-east asia really) and India first though. I'll get there one day.
The only herpetologist i can think of from Port Elizabith is William R. Branch who gave a lecture called Herps and hopes Africa a new millennium in 2001 i think. As far as i'm aware he is the curator of herpetology in Port Elizabeth Museum.
Oh just rememberd Marius Burger Project Herpetologist for Southern African Reptile Conservation Assessment (SARCA)
Anyway this is getting off topic lol i could talk about this for days (and i have done. Thanks to caffein, energy drinks and 20 min catnaps hehe)
