What a nightmare! I've been wearing kilts 30 years and I've never seen a kilt that looks like that. I didn't know a kilt COULD look like that!
My three kilts are handsewn by makers I dealt directly with and all three are very nice.

Glad to hear you are coming to a frustrating but satisfying conclusion. Must keep an eye out for this Peter Reid fellow in the future. Seems like a more than reasonable chap.

It's a lot of hassle and frustration but at least an effort is being made to make it right. When a man buys something he should get what he pays for. I can't believe anyone would have sent that out like that, but some folks don't really take pride in what they do. I believe that if you are putting your name on it, it should be right before it leaves your shop...of course, the kiltmaker's name didn't go on it, so the seller is stuck with the mess to clean up.
Keep your head up...the jonesing won't kill you, but it might make you think it will!
If I were in your shoes I'd probably order myself an off the peg kilt or a sporran or something to ease some of the jonesing and as a reward for handling it so well. You dealt with it much better than I would have! Kudos.
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

To my opinion this is completely unforgivable.
1) In the first place Tartanweb should have checked the quality when receiving the kilt from the kilt maker, meaning you had never seen this bad kilt, because they, of course, would up front have a new one made for you.
2) If you had sent the pictures, you show us here, to Tartanweb, and which I suppose you did, of a so badly made kilt they should not have asked you to send it back at all, but suggested that you just got rid of it and then immediately have had a new kilt made for you from scratch.
3) Having it altered, nevertheless, they should really have checked it out, before sending it to you again. This would mean that Tartanweb should eventually have ordered the kilt maker to sew a new kilt or, better, have found a new maker. Because it shouldn’t take many seconds even to an unskilled eye to find out, that the “improvement” was far from making it wearable. Sending it to you is in my eyes a scorn.
But thank you for informing us. After having seen pictures of your kilt and learned about the customer “service” at Tartanweb, I really doubt, I shall ever risk my money with this company.

Nightmare! Totally unforgivable! Frustrating! You name it, and I'm feeling it! I do hope, though, that this will be a passing blip on the radar screen. In the mean time, I'm having to start all over again!
As stated in my previous post, Peter Reid has agreed to give me a refund. And, has asked that I put my trust in him again as he endeavors to start his own company, Reid Kilts. I'll be his first customer and he'll see to it that the kilt is made by one of Scotland's best, Glenisla, who recently won a MOD contract to supply 5,000 kilts to the Royal Scottish Regiment.
I do appreciate everyone's comments. I was beginning to think it was just me being so picky! But, why shouldn't I be? I have a nice, inexpensive Stillwater that looks better than my, supposed, tank.
I'm expecting a happy ending to this, even though it's been terribly upsetting!!! Keep tuned for pics of the new kilt down the road.

Sorry that you had such a time with this kilt and best luck on the next one and all, but at this point doesn't it seem a bit, well, you know...

Glen Isla Kilt,
I don,t know were you get the information that Glen Isla is the top manufacturer of kilts. As part of the team who looked at the kilts be aware.Glen isla was not the regiments preffered bidder but be aware he was the cheapest contract. Secondly time was an essential part in the process, all his kilts are machine made. The bulk of the area is pleating with which it is a standard size depending on which STOCK size you were requesting. All the individual sizing is finished on the under apron and top apron to fit the garment. I deal with these kilts day to day so far i have fitted something on the range of 600-700 kilts on individuals within the ROYAL REGIMENT OF SCOTLAND the constant complaint i get is they are ill fitting and boxey gaps at the waist due to the seat and waist being the same. I have a friend who works in Hamburg an ex Queens Own Highlander regimental tailor who is at present sorting a pipe band from Germany who purchased from Glen Isla with disasterous effect. The kilts can be very well made however you have to be able to go to the workshop and get fitting ect also be aware a kilt take from stat to finish an hour and a half 90% machined.Be careful with this purchase.
John
PS I don,t have an axe to grind with this firm they supplied the product that will make due for the British army with the funding agreed, but they are not high quality traditional kilt makers. Beleive it or not they are getting far and few between in Scotland as profit seems to be more important than quality and personal business pride.

Ouch even though you don't have an axe to grind and I've never heard of the company, (so they're not that well known in Scotland) that's not a glowing review and I would think twice about getting a kilt from them after that.

I think denmcdough is just responding to the comments and engaging in discussion, not flogging anything

I'd be remiss for not weighing in. I am relatively new to the kilted world. I've ordered my 3 kilts, PC and tweed argyle jacket & misc. accessories from Tartan Web. With multiple orders spread out over several months, I was not surprised there would be some glitches. BUT, Peter Reed provided top notch customer support and all is well. I should say, none of the problems were with my kilts (two tanks and one 5-yard kilt in 16 oz tartan). I have enjoyed working with Peter Reed and wish him the best in his new endeavor.
