I know little of shoe prices in England, but on the continent it is not difficult to find quality shoes matching number 4 for less.
By all means, for a wedding use black shoes with leather soles.

(Though I also like Ecco, but they are not as repairable, or 'high end'.)
Coming from "Ecco-Country" myself I have often bought this brand. They are very durable and I have never found that they were difficult to have repaired.

This may be bias but I can't help but feel that Alen Edmonds' shoes don't seem as sleek as British or Continental shoes. Is this just me?
I might look at what the continent has to offer too. I am going to wait until I can get fitted in a store before looking for best price.
Cheers

All my shoes have come from Churches for some years. Very good value considering longevity, but the initial price hurts. In the past wore Loakes and can really recommend them....

IMHO any of the black shoes with leather soles would look fine - espcially after you wear them for a week every day to break them in. Nothing like sore painful foot wear at a fling. Also the black's with a nice military spit shine will look very eligant especially if you dye and spit shine the instep like I use to do when I was in The Corps. Attention to detail

Get a pair made...
Send a PM to X Marks member DWFII. He is a highly skilled and kilted shoemaker based in the USA. See if he can't put you a custom pair together. There is a thread about his shoes here. A fantastic read and a great insight into his craft.

Personally, I have no problem shopping online for items that are not available to me locally . . . kilts come to mind. For those items that are available to me locally, I shop those businesses active in my community. If an order is necessary, I give them first chance to do so.
One point . . . never buy a shoe, bootjack or doorknob because it "doesn't look too bad." You will end up hating it and yourself, generally in that order.

I have two pairs of Allen Edmonds shoes that I bought on Ebay.
One pair fits perfectly, the other pair a tad big.
Each pair cost around $20.
They were sold as "used" but look absolutely new.
I affixed buckles to them. It's what I'm wearing in my Avatar.

Just an update
I am thinking of going with these shoes.
http://www.pediwear.co.uk/loake/products/2603.php

They are at the top end of what I can afford and come with a free set of shoe trees and a silk tie so in a way I can save money too.
What do you think?
