Oh yes...I'm all too aware of our Navy/USMC relationship (and how the marines are the "men's department"). I guess, my confusion with the OP Tartan is that it does not cause me to think of the USMC. So the imagery does not connect and thereby create the linkage that is suggested in the tartan description. That's all. I'm in the Navy and happen to love my Marine bretheren--but purple doesn't make me think of them. (unless, of course, it's the purple in my eye from getting beat down during MCMAP training)

You know, ther purple (while nice) does seem odd. Maybe if it was another set of red to give the impression of "Blood Strips"?

I like it. And to add to the fray, here's one I noodled with for those of us who served as SWCC, SBU, MIUW etc:

And with the Brown stripe for the Brownshoes!

    And one more... my favorite:
I like the second one. Wish I could afford to have a weaver make a few yards! Then all I'd have to do is soak it overnight in a mix of MIL-PRF 83282 and JP-5 and smear a bit of 8802 on it...you know, for authenticity!

As an airframer I still think of hyd fluid as a condiment, and PD-680 as a nice mixer. It has a slightly minty aftertaste, reminiscent of Southern Comfort.
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.
