Worry not FB I could well join you with the rant! Thank goodness "our" shirt salesmen still know what a real dress shirt is!![Laughing](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
A lounge suit/business suit? One and the same thing-------I think.
Tattersall shirts are usually mainly white/cream long sleeved(often) with, perhaps, blue vertical line with red horizontal lines crossing each other at anything from 1 to 4 inch intervals. From a distance of, say some 10 ft, the pattern is almost indistinguishable from the background.Classic "country set" wear for the UK. I am not cleaver enough to get a picture up to demonstrate, but no doubt "google" will demonstrate.

I believe lounge suit would be in NA "business suit", and Jock's statement of
tweed day jacket is the thing.

Marvellous. Thanks Jock & Triple.
Perhaps the reason I get out of sorts is that I myself still use many of the British terms from which the terminologies have unfortunately devolved. It's the old English teacher in me - I have the bad habit of actually speaking the language most of the time, and not just making trendy, current grunting sounds.
Ah well! You can't legislate knowledge or intelligence in societies. Not to offend, but it is really discouraging when people don't know the language of their own business. I do not generally blame the employees, but rather their supervisors who often do cursory or no training.

...and there is no such thing as a "tuxedo" ...it's a dinner jacket, dammit!

Oh, I hope you don't mind me mentioning this, but, well, um, ahhh, er,-- we are supposed to be dishing out some handy advice on a happy occasion.

Ah yes . . . my apologies! I'm just frustrated with the difficulty in communicating that good advice.
At the far end of the spectrum, prayers and blessings for the happy couple.

I've been to a wedding at the Tuxedo Park Club in Tuxedo Park, New York, where what folks in the UK call a dinner jacket is supposed to have derived its name. I was kilted in the wedding party, while the rest of the group wore tuxedos. The groom specified that an Argyll jacket, worn in this case with black tie accoutrements, was the most appropriate jacket...

A yes Jock, we did get a bit derailed there, eh? At the wedding I mentioned above, the groom wore the same tuxedo as the rest of the group but a different coloured waistcoat and tie.

And thanks (honestly!) for that sartorial history lesson - I was trying to remember the etymology of the term. (note the winkie smiley)

Hi, Joseph – you have had good advice here, and your family seems to know how to dress in the kilt, so I won’t chip in with anything more on that subject.
Enjoy the wedding!
I used to know Kirkpatricks who lived in the Transvaal (they now fall into Limpopo Province). Probably related to you (albeit distantly).

I have to admit that we here in the states often 'dress down' for normally smart occasions. I've been to weddings where I was the only man, aside from the groom, wearing a tie (and the ceremony was not on the beach!)
