It is called a Tian. It is a French southern speciality.

It is a small brass telescope...

    Robert,
Thanks on both accounts. I'll certainly look up a recipe for that dish. (Ah, I see one that looks similar is tomato, potato and zuchini on a bed of carmalized onions, yum) The small telescope, I'm certain is the start of many interesting conversations.
BTW thanks for posting the photos of the continuing journey of the quaich.

I can not imagine a more fitting visit to France for the Quaich. Introduced to all the fine fabric on the worktable, and then a proper visit for fine friends, family, and food. You have certainly done the Quaich proud on it's visit to you. May your birthday celebration be joyous. We are all looking forward to further updates.

So yesterday was my 58th birthday and we had a few friends over to celebrate it around... the Quaich !

The cat was having a party of his own...

The weather was still cold but not as bad as it was these last few days.

Our house in the French Alps.

But what was happening inside ? ... ?

    ... a feast ! What else ! ? !

Great moments to be shared !
