Howdy from Oklahoma
Hi all
I've been lurking around the forum for a few weeks (and spent the last two days wading through the do's and don'ts mega-thread ) and I figured it was time to go ahead and register. I picked up my first kilt back in March (a Utilikilt Workman's) and a second a few months later (Utilikilt Survival). I wear a kilt to work a couple of times a week in a very casual fashion (read: T-Shirt & boots), and while I find the full formal dress to be very nice looking, it's just not something that would fit into my lifestyle. I've got an order with Rocky for my first tartan kilt (a semi-traditional) and if wind up liking that one, I will probably spring for a full 8 yards in my family's tartan later this year. I've recently been digging into my family history a bit more in-depth, both in America and in Scotland, and near as I can tell, the folks on my dad's side came over from Ayrshire, Scotland back in 1740. Throughout my research, I've found the history of the Scots and their influence in early American history to be quite fascinating. Though I wasn't personally there for the making of this history, I take great pride in my Scottish heritage and hope to pass this interest to my son as he grows up.
I've yet to see another kiltie in Oklahoma, but I know from browsing around that there are few in the state.
