Re: ebay jacket heads up for the macleods
Shame, looks like it didnt sell. Thats a good jacket for a Macleod who likes to be exuberant.
Each to their own I guess.

Re: ebay jacket heads up for the macleods
I would have thought that it would have been a relatively easy (or at least straightforward) conversion to change the collar and cuffs to silk or gross-grain or some such.
For the £50 cost and another £25, could be quite a unique jacket.
It is possible for an eBay vendor to hold a private sale on eBay - they only invite one person to bid.
It didn't sell for 50 - maybe the vendor would accept 40.

Chas

Re: ebay jacket heads up for the macleods
As a MacLeod I would wear it with pride. That said I have the idea of a sheriffmuir done up in full MacLeod of Lewis tartan. Say what you will it's one of mine and I ain't ashamed of it. Note my avatar is the snuffbox variation, someday I hope to do a custom weave in that one.

Fair enough, regarding the "ugly" comment, which is simply personal opinion.
The fact that it was designed by the Allen brothers as part of a deliberate hoax has been well established.

Re: ebay jacket heads up for the macleods
My own family tartan, Armstrong, is another one we owe to the Vestiarium Scoticum. But considering it has been the one and only tartan used by the family for over 150 years now, its origins barely matter!
From a design standpoint, I do have to say I find quite a few of the tartans in the VS.... er... "unimaginative" to say the least. However, some are better than others. And I should also point out that not all of the tartans in the VS were created by the Stuart bros. We know for a fact that some were around and in use before the VS, and the Stuart brothers simply used those established tartans.

Couldn't see the first one due to sale ending, but wow!
Whilst I like the idea, and it IS one of our tartan's and woudl surely make one stand out in a crowd...think I'll pass...

It wasn't? Ok, makes me feel a little better... I only bid an extra pound, bringing the price to £41  but wasn't really bothered.... I came across a Buchanan kilt for £22 plus postage which was a bargain... I'll post pics elsewhere so I don't hijack the thread
