Well, went to sign in (I'm a lifetime member) and it won't take my password. I can't log in. Can't remember the last time I got the email newsletter. Sent an email to the contact address on the website and it was rejected. Have they gone out of business. Does anyone have a working email for Brian or the STA so I can contact them and ask them what's wrong that my password doesn't work anymore?

    Not a happy camper.

Thanks for any ideas or information.

I have reached Brian at admin@tartansauthority.com in the past (as late as last November). Apparently, he is "snowed under" and can't always promptly reply. Good luck.

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Just as an aside, the new website's lacking threadcounts is a real step backward IMO. I understand that they are trying to entice membership by offering it for free to members, but given that I can get the threadcounts for free from the Register, the real result is that I am now less likely to visit the STA's website and no more likely to join.

You might PM or email Matt. He is/was a Governor of the STA and may have some insights into any changes taking place. Again, good luck.

Well, I paid a lifetime membership and can't access the thread counts either....

Was hoping Matt was still subscribed to this thread....

    Ron,

On July 18 all STA members should have received an email about the new web site informing them that part of the change over involved a change in the log in procedure. As a lifetime member of the STA, I received this email myself, so I'll quote from it.
The STA's upgraded website has been launched and your login procedure has been simplified. In future, all you will be required to enter will be your email address (that is, the email address that you registered when joining - the email you have received this email in) plus your password.

The original passwords and membership numbers could not be migrated to the new website so a temporary, random password has been generated for you. To change that to one of your choice, please click here to login and then follow instructions.

    Your temporary password is:
(Obviously I won't know what temporary password they assigned you). It could be that you are trying to log in with your membership number, as you are used to doing from before, not your email address. Or it could be that you have not yet reset your password since the change. There is no way for me to tell. But an email to Brian should help. The last email communique I got from him at the admin@tartansauthority.com email address was about two weeks ago. As far as I know there is nothing wrong with their email system, though if you still can't get an email to go through, you might have to try a phone call. If I can reach him I'll see if I can see if there is any problem with the email system.

As far as I can recall, the threadcounts were never shown on the public site, only to members. So this does not represent a change in their policy. And, as you said, you can obtain them from the National Register for free, though I will note they are not always the same.

Well, there's always 2% that don't get the word....if I got that email I would have addressed it - always do....was having a lot of fun in July though so who knows. Just don't think I got it...or would have addressed it....but I've been wrong many many many times before. Maybe they sent it to the olde email addy...

More important is the email to the admin address was rejected yesterday. It was rejected AGAIN today. Here's what it says.

"This is an informative message sent by mail1.radiatorhosting.co.uk.

The server was not able to deliver your email message

Subject: Trying again....frustrated....are you still in business??
    Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2012 09:17:09 -0700

    to the following addresses:

    <admin@tartansauthority.com> (mail1.radiatorhosting.co.uk: 550 5.3.0 Mailbox alias cannot be expanded)"

So somehow I've become a blocked sender and cannot email to find out how to fix things. Know Brian is on here under some name but don't remember it. Will look at the obivous. Hopefully he checks in here once in a while.

Okay, went back and checked all my emails from July 14 t hrough July 22 and there is nothing from STA....so I apparently wasn't sent any notice of this change to follow through on....??? Do live memberships expire before death?
