Hello Flavia! My maternal great grandmother was a Dawson tho I have no idea where they originally came from. That branch has hit a bit of a dead end and I need to spend some time on it.
Congratulations on getting the hubby kilted, I'm still working on mine.

When I said "money", I meant in terms of buying a Davidson kilt. There's a recognized Davidson tartan on that site - a budget version, of course!

Clan Davidson USA shows the Wedding tartan on our site. I don't know if the Chief has officially recognized it or not. I am going to inquire.

Does the chief of Clan Davidson not have anything to do with the website? Wouldn't the chief have a bone to pick with the tartan registry if they listed something that he didn't recognize?

The Scottish Register of Tartan is a UK Government website and can accept registrations from any person and as long as certain criteria are met and the associated monies are paid, then a tartan can be registered. Should I be so inclined, I could register a Davidson tartan tomorrow in the Personal or Company categories and as long it met the criteria and the money paid, presto, a registered tartan
As can be seen in the the entry for Davidson (Wedding)(personal) http://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/tar...s.aspx?ref=892
It ia a name tartan designed by a Donald Fraser with a tartan date of 010198. The only other information is that it was designed for a wedding dress. As Geoff has stated, the chief of Clan Davidson may have since accepted the tartan as a clan tartan. My original comments were based on those in another thread by Thistledown (a proud Davidson man and scottish history scholar) who had not heard of a blue and white Davidson tartan. Perhaps I should have not stated that is not an officially recognised, but I cannot find any records to indicate it has been. Perhaps if it was listed as a clan tartan rather than a name tartan, then a conclusion to its official standing could be drawn.
We will have to await the outcome of Geoffs enquiries to ascertain as to whether or not the Chief has given the nod to the tartan in question
As to what Clan Societies have on their web pages, I can assure you that there are errors of all types within the so called facts presented.
