The Maclaren tartan is, what I term, a very conservative tartan. I think it would be a good start and give a historic(or hysteric if you like)reason to wear it.

I've been trying to reply for a week. I knew I'd read it I just couldn't find it.
Al, Casey, I'll be getting in touch with Bear soon to find out about options. The MacLaren isn't on his list of tartans so I might have to cast the net further or choose something different. Still plenty of time to pick and choose, cos' I've got to find the money yet...

Back to the original branch of this topic, I prefer wearing a kilt when doing any sort of yard work, especially mowing the lawn, as that is often a hot and tedious chore. The past couple times, some of my neighbors started honking and waving at me. Perhaps I should post my lawn-mowing schedule so they can all get together and entertain themselves by watching a kilted man mow his lawn (sometimes we're pretty desperate for entertainment here).

Rhino, forgive me if I actually enjoy myself as I watch you move closer to the inevitable lure of the tartan.

We've all changed, some, like me have changed a lot as a result of ths board. I've become much more fanatical about wearing kilts (I prefer to use the word 'confident') since being influenced by those who come here.

Ultimately, it's all about what makes you happy and comfortable, nothing else matters.

You'll be buying a cammo kilt next Graham and you're right about the comfort, I promise Philbo it's sort of back to the thread.
The last few days have been mixed in the UK from very warm to hail/sleet and chilly. For nearly a week I've been wearing trousers partly because of the work environment at the moment and partly because I couldn't believe 6yrds of wool would be cool enough.
I cracked yesterday and after 9hrs in jeans I put a 6yrd wool kilt on.
The sun was out I was cool and comfy, quite a revelation as I really expected to overheat.
Wore it again today in a hailstorm and was mostly warm and dry. I'm lovin it!!!

I'm with Graham on the camo. First, I'm not fond of the camo or the new kilt designs myself, although I try to keep an open mind. Second, and most important I have to keep peace in the family. That is to say, my wife does not like camo in any way shape or form, and, she thinks the new kilt designs are too skirtish and would make me look feminine with my slight build.

As much as I don't understand why people wear Camo colour clothing, Yet, I have a Black Watch Kilt.

A plain kilt then or pin stripe or denim or leather or polka dot...well not polka dot but nearly anything else, I understand about not upsetting your family, but why limit yourself. If you don't like them fair enough but remember, I wasn't very keen on tartan and I'm now looking at it in a new light. Never say never...
