Porridge, now you're talking about a fine breakfast!
I love it on a cold morning with natural honey and soy milk.

Not to belabour a point, but, I have become the gourmet chef of the oat, for the reason stated.
I would suggest that you try any of the following in any combination that you may wish:
Raisans/Currents
Figs/Dates/Prunes
Orange zest(A favourite of my wife)
Cinnamon/Allspice/Nutmeg/Ginger
Fresh apple(with the peal)/Homemade Apple sauce (again with peal).
I also agree that soy milk adds more to the dish than regular milk.
Bonne Appetite!

There's a store called Candy Corner near enough for me to visit now and then. Along with a good variety of Scottish, Irish, Welsh and English goodies, they have Scott's Porage Oats.
This may be something of a ho hum for you guys in Great Britain but Scott's is a fine bowl of porridge! I like it thick enough to sculpt into at least a D-cup.
The box also shows a shot putter in a kilt.
Cub's favourite at Candy Corner is the Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans. (Yes, there are some icky ones. The pepper bean had him scrambling for milk.)
An added bonus is the excitement of the ladies who work there when I arrive. They take photos, ask about the tartan. take a handful of business cards, etc.
They put my photo nest to two photos cats.
One said, "If you knew how important those cats were, you'd be honoured!"
I don't know what they'll do if I go in there with Cub in his kilt. It might be too much for them.

If you want to try something really great, try the steel cut Irish oats.
Great nutty flavour and texture.

Bear, you can tell Cub that my tricky nieces gave me the vomit and grass flavored ones. :x Disgusting!! The other flavors weren't too bad though.

Casey, nice healthy ideas, I'll try them.
I heard that in past times, Scots would have a "porridge drawer" in the dining table. Excess porridge would be tipped into the drawer to set, then sliced up cold for lunch.
Think I'll give that a miss
