Mary sez:
Kilt progress update...goat hair canvas sewn into place. Working in the aprons now. You can see the fringe of the over apron, basted into place. The end is not in sight but I am now working on the fiddly bits that make it such a wonderful gament.

As of this morning:
Oh frabjous day! I have finished the aprons! Lo and also behold, the waistband is next. What wonderful news as last night at choir practice our pastor asked if I could begin on any one of three new sets of paraments. When I consider that a set, from inspiration through computer design, to sewing up to six trial stitchouts, to the finished pair can take up to 18 months.... Hope his ideas for designs are simple ones! But that's because I don't work on them as I am pushing this kilt, either.
Very pleased with this kilt. It better fit, with all the times Tom is dropping by after work, at my request to allow me to sling it around him.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what are paraments, Mary / Sydnie?

Paraments are religious hangings that go on the altar/communion table, pulpit, clergy stole and wall hangings, usually in the colours of the liturgical seasons. They are most common in the Roman Catholic, Anglican, and Lutheran traditions; but found more within the lower liturgical traditions, i.e. Presbyterian or United Church of Canada, in recent years.

Mary's update:
So Tom was shown the plain dark blue lining material...heh heh heh. I showed Nicole (Tom's wife) the Star Wars material and she was ecstatic about it.
The buckles and straps are all sewn on, with the exception of the interior one which awaits the lining completion. And then it's done, Done, DONE!!!
I figure slightly more than 40 hr, since I had to figure out just how/where I was going to sew on the additional material. I did manage to get it on the upside of the large pleat beside the under apron. Whew!
Back to sewing in the lining. One apron is finished, the other is basted in. Then just the back. Oh, frabjous day!!
["additional material" refers to the fact that Mary needed to add about a yard of fabric to accommodate kilt size. It was grafted in to form the underapron, with the seam buried inside the reverse pleat]

Thank you, so very much. I thought that was what she was referring to but did not want to assume. So I tried looking it up, and had no luck. Better to ask and get the right answers.

Brilliant surprise! LOVE the lining fabric! This kilt will always be ID'd as your work, Mary. Tom will always be able to find his kilt...

I was so pleased at how well Tom's kilt looked. The class was invaluable and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to learn to make a kilt. Sydnie's help in posting the pictures was much appreciated, thank you thank you, Sister.
