But the fact that he, like so many clueless ren faire attendees think they need to wear a woman's sash with their kilt is what to me marks it as a costume, even if an unintended one.

Oddly enough I will be at Busch Gardens around Christmas time and while I will likely have my kilt with me, I had not thought of wearing it to the park.
I met a man wearing a kilt at Six Flags (another amusement park) this summer. I doubt I would wear one, as I think there is too much chance of exposure. Quite a few rides leave the rider's legs exposed, at least. I don't think I've seen any women wearing skirts on rides, either.

    Relates to "Costume"

I had a lengthy conversation on Twitter regarding this issue with someone in the area. The fear expressed had more to do with the fact tat members of the park's haunt team are wearing kilts. They are afraid this customer might be mistaken for one of their team and perhaps be targeted by patrons who lash out at their actors. I still wave my BS flag on this.

If a patron lays a hand on an employe or another patron they need to be dealt with in whatever legal measures required by the incident. That there are kilted actors is no excuse to deny entry. As he (however poorly iterated) said in his video, had is wife been dressed in an identical manner, she would likely not have been denied entry. are they not worried that she might too become a target?

I don't live there and won't be there any time soon. I do however occasionally visit their Tampa location. I may either try to pass through kilted or simply decide to deny them my patronage. It all depends on how I feel at the moment.

Not certain what all the fuss is about, it is after all their property and the management may, for whatever reason, determine what dress is acceptable. I cannot fathom why anyone would wear a kilt to an amusement park in the first place but we are all aware of dress codes and if one is not inclined to comply they are more than free to spend their monies where they feel more warmly welcomed.

He seems better suited to the renfair interpretation of Scottish culture...perhaps he may wish to throw a coat of blue paint on his face for true farcicle accuracy before his next monosybolic rant!

    From the Busch Gardens Website:

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Attire
In keeping with the family image of Busch Gardens®, guests must wear appropriate clothing while in the park. Shirts, shoes and pants must be worn at all times. Clothing with suggestive or explicit language or insulting statements is not allowed. Busch Gardens reserves the right to refuse admission or ask anyone to leave who is not in compliance with these rules.

Can I wear a costume to Busch Gardens?
No. For the safety of our guests and performers, we do not allow costumes in the park any time of the year, but especially not during Howl-O-Scream® and Christmas Town™.

Aside from whether or not a kilt is a costume, it seems that skirts are not permitted . . .(?)

To be honest I never see a girl in a skirt at an amusement park for a good reason.

It's a good policy to not wear a skirt nor a kilt. There's many great opportunities to be exposed especially when you will ride a roller coaster in the same path with the patrons below in the lines awaiting for their turns to get in the ride. They'd see you easily from below if you wear a skirt, or a kilt.

This time I'm with Busch Gardens to enforce no skirt/kilt rules.

I generally agree with the sentiment that wearing skirts or kilts on a carnival ride is a bad idea. OTOH, this is not the reason given for not letting him in. The no costumes rule was invoked instead, which is apparently based on the likelihood of confusion with employees. The issue seems to be that this rule is very selectively enforced. Many people in actual costumes do get allowed in, whilst this guy was barred entry merely for wearing an uncommon garment that is not a costume. They don't seem to be obeying their own rules.

As for Disney, this is an entirely separate company, but on online friend of mine just spent a week there whilst dressed as Bellle, with her BF dressed as the Beast, despite a similar rule. Mind you, she makes costumes for money and appears in the same at children's parties, so she is in fact a professional. They probably thought she actually was one of their employees.

To be honest, after watching the video, with what I know about heritage and Scottish and Highland games. He had a sash across his sweatshirt. That seems like a "costume effect" to me and could be confusing... If I was a 22 year old gate guard, I would be confused.

What tartan is he wearing? Apologies, but it's hard to tell in the video.

I do feel that if he lost the sash, he would not have looked as silly, and might not have been stopped at all. After watching the video, he does seem like someone just trying to get attention.

At 0:53 as he pulled out his sash. You can see the yellow badge of Sport Kilt company on his right side of his waist. It's the Royal Purple Sport Kilt.
