The sett and overall "lightness" of the tartan surely looks like the Balmoral tartan, Mike.

À propos the odd pictures of the pipers, by coincidence I came across a picture this afternoon of a nude piper. I won’t post it on X Marks, since that would be inappropriate, but I could forward it to anyone who is interested.

Mike

Wow! Unless the piper is female, I shall not ask you to forward it to me, Mike - hahahahahaha!!!

Richard, those two of the pipers making the kids cry are great. Having a piper brother, I can relate! (Sorry, Thom, but you know what I mean.)

I don't want to post direct links to the photos, since they are not mine, but HERE are some rather nice candid pictures taken of the London Scottish before the Great War, along with a bit of regimental information I'd not heard before.
Cheers

Wonderful photos of these brave men wearing the hodden grey. It's eerie to wonder if these chaps ever made it back home, when so many did not.
Cheers,

I'm also curious about this photo as his harness doesn't appear to be secured by thigh straps. Perhaps there's a bit more to the story?

Interesting paratrooper photo but I had a problem posting. User error I expect
