Had a mini- tasting last night with a neighbor who was staying with us for a couple nights before moving out of town, a celebration--bon voyage of sorts. Started out with Glenmorangie 10, followed by Glenmorangie Sherrywood (what is now called Quinta Ruban in the modern stable), followed by the first opening of my father's day gift, Glenmorangie Ealanta, the pinnacle of the evening. Eased back a bit with Glenmorangie LaSanta (portwood finished), then Auchentoshan 10, and for a change up some Clontarf Single Malt Irish Whiskey. Evening topped with the Signatory Vintage bottling of 24 year old Auchentoshan at full cask strength. Never got around to any of the Islays or dyed in the wool Highlands or Islands, so we will save the strong stuff for another time.
For those wondering the Glenmorangie Ealanta Private Reserve is a very nice yet unique tasting mouthful, racked only in virgin oak barrels made from old growth Ozark Mountain White Oak trees from the north slopes of southern Missouri. I always thought that by definition Scotch whiskey had to be racked into a USED whiskey barrel, hence the reason all those single use only American Bourbon barrels make their way to Scotland for use by their Scotch whisky distilleries. Learn something new every day.
Now to find the Glenmorangie Companta to complete the collection.

Sounds wonderful, a Glenmorangie extravaganza! Fortunately, nobody had to leave the house. I couldn't have even staggered home. By the way, the La Santa is the sherry and the Quinta Ruben the port. At least the little Mexican distillery that supplies my bar has them labelled that way. 
Incidentally, I just noticed that your next post will be number 4000. Congratulations. That calls for a dram of Glenmorangie.

We'll John, my 4000th will be an homage to you for correctly correcting my error. I have bottles of the port wood , Madeira, and sherry cask finished Glenmorangies, as well as the next generations of the wine cask finished Nector D'Or, LaSanta, Quinta Ruban, Sonnalta and Finealta, and I always get the latter group confused with which one is which wine cask finished.p, unless I have the bottles in front of me. And after a couple turns of the bottle even then I have trouble, if you gather my drift. Matters not, as different as they all are on the palate, I love them all just like I love my children, who are similarly as varied as Glenmorangies offerings. And I get their names mixed up sometimes too.

Jeff: Can you still find the Madeira? I haven't seen a bottle in a few years, at least. I thought they quit making it, but not being a big Madeira fan, I haven't looked all that hard for it.
I have only sampled about half the ones you have mentioned in your posts, so you know a good bit more about Glenmorangie's malts than I do. Since I drained my Madeira bottle a few years ago, I have pretty much stuck with the 10-year, La Santa, Quinta Ruben, and the 18-year. That last one is too expensive (for my tastes, anyway) for the relatively small, but indisputable increase in quality. I have also tried their Sauterne-finished malt (Nectar D'or). The wine itself is too sweet for me, and thus adversely influences my opinion of the malt.
I know what you mean about "turns of the bottle", but as they say, "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy".

Tonight, a wee dram of Singleton single malt. Not a great scotch, but it was a gift and it makes me appreciate my higher end bottles.

The best description of Singleton I have heard. I feel precisely the same way about it. I'll drink it, if it's there, and enjoy it, but I won't go looking for it.

Tonight it's the MacPhail's Collection, Highland Park. It's an 8 year "young" bottling. Really picked it up after a discussion of Highland Park 12 vs 15 vs 18 and Old Pulteney and Aberlour and Glen Garioch and a couple of others. Then this was pointed out to me and it was at an impulse price point so I grabbed it. Very good for an 8. A hint of sea salt and a glance of peat. Very drinkable, but a tad better with a couple of drops of water to soften it a bit.
