I might have a wee bit of trouble making a living as a merchant of Scottish and Celtic goods IN Scotland -- too much competition! But I definitely have a feeling that it's 'home' in a sense. People still live at the old (Traill) family seat of 600+ years ago, at Blebo in Fife (between St Andrews and Cupar), though not in the original house, which was pulled down at some point. 'Walter's Tower' is the oldest structure still standing at the Blebo estate. It was built by Archbishop Walter Traill who rebuilt the Castle and Cathedral of St Andrews at the end of the 14th century.
Wow, this is getting FAR off-topic -- sorry!

I wander over to the Clan Donald tent and some arrogant **** informs me that the Lord of the Isle has reserved that tartan for himself...well excuuuuse me **** hole!
But dang, why do I have to put up with such petty insanity from twits. First Highland Games I've gone to in many a year, just because of such attitudes...harrump...holier than thou...etc.
well, as a MacDonald, I have to agree with you on some of the asses that man the MacDonald clan tents at the various events. Hell, even the Clan Donald USA site is pompous. I was completely ignored when I went to the MacDonald table at the event a couple weeks ago here in PA (all except for one woman who remembered my daughter from Green Lane, she's pretty cool)
My response is usually that I dont have to prove myself to you who I am, but if you want me to, you better be prepared for the consequences.

This is all very interesting. I wonder how it will go when I hook up with Clan MacNaughtan at some Highland Games this coming summer.
The drummer from the Wicked Tinkers is a MacNaughton, and I've got a bodhran and whistles in my backpack, so we'll probably do just fine.

It was sort of embarassing!
I hear ya Doc! Kith and kin where ever they be, warmly greeted like lambs returning to the herd.

That is the way it should be -- don't you wish everyone had that way of thinking? :::sigh:::

I remember two clans with booths on the lower level and danged if I can remember what the other one was, but one had the larger display and when my family and I were there with me in an Amerikilt, my brother-in-law in Johnston and my future son-in-law in one I don't know started looking at the literature they had, we got more information than we could have possibly processed and an invite to sign up for the clan if we wanted to and then they provided information for the Clan Hay USA so that we could join when they found out my last name. I guess you get both ends of the spectrum.

Now that doesn't suprise me. I have a friend who is a Hay and is an absolutely golden fellow.
