Ron, yesterday was the first day I had worn flashes. I was not sure whether I would like them or not and have decided that I do. Make a nice accessory and makes the whole outfit a little more fun. I think your idea would be great!

kilt panels...

bear in mind that some Highland soldiers wear kilt panels and ribbons. Not tied nowadays, but were designed to tie the kilt together particularly in windy weather on parade.
The officers of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (Princes Louise's) (91st & 93rd) still wear an embroidered panel on the front of the kilt and two ribboned rosettes on the back. Theirs was designed by the Colonel in Chief Princess Louise, after as legend has it, an officer accidently flashed at her on parade
Once I find a photo of them I'll post it
Yours aye,
Dwarf
The Calgary Highlanders (an affiliated regiment of the A & SH) also wears the kilt panel -- their web site has a nice write-up, along with some piccies and a graphic of the kilt panel here:

Does anyone have a link to a pic of the XMARKS kilt pin? I'd like to make a copy, and if it is agreeable to Hank, see if I can find someone who will make an embrodered patch, or at least silkscreen it on a cap.

Here's the only link and pic I could find. I've thought about an embroiderd patch but I've not had time to look into it.

Patches I've thought about. There are minimum orders to consider though and I can't afford to pop over $100 on it. There are some good sources on line that make embroidered patches.

Don't forget to peruse Steve's (FK) post. He now has an embroidery machine and is making his own patches in house. The post above mentions a price of about $35 for one.

It would be easy to attach a patch a thin piece of acetate to stiffen it.Maybe a thin piece of felt to cover it.Then put on a pin and your set.
Here's a source for pins.

So far I have only done my own logos and a few clan crest patches for kilts.
I'll work on digitizing the X Marks kilt pin tomorrow and see what I can come up with.
I should be able to get the cost down to around $20.00 us per patch.
