Happy Tartan Day! I spent most of the day strolling and sitting in one of our large city parks. I wore my SWK Black Stewart with a red polo, black hose, and red flashes. Had a nice conversation with an older couple that remarked how nice the kilt looked. A very pleasant day.

So something different happened today. I'm in my X Marks the Scot tartan for Tartan Day and another therapist (even older than I) stares at my kilt a while and finally she asks me how I keep it so clean and keep the pleats so perfectly aligned.

She was asking from the point of view of wanting to know...she said she has some wool tartan skirts that she has trouble with.

Told her I didn't really know. Explained the kilt was hand sewn and that I kept it in a garment bag when not wearing it and that I never wore it to smoky places or hiking when the sand was blowing around.

Then she asked how I washed it. Told her I hadn't yet...but if I did would probably use woolite and hand wash in the tub.

She just sort of took it all in then went back to work and so did I.

I'm still pondering how often does a woman ask a man about garment care?

Phooey on me for not realizing that today was Tartan Day. And to think I was wearing troosers.

I shall endeavor to wear the kilt tomorrow, but of course, it will be paired with a black shirt.

Why?

Because tomorrow is Black Friday. Black Friday is the American's answer to the recent protests by illegal aliens. By wearing black shirts on 7 April, we show our support for America's legal immigrants, and the upholding of our laws, traditions, and work ethic. Sorta like the Boston Tea Party.

I went oot wit mai cousin Bruce.... he is helpin' ma fin aw 54 pubs in the toon....

we went tae.... "The Worlds End" (guid place tae start I thoucht)... "White Hart"...

"Devorgilla Lounge"... "Globe Inn"... "Spread Eagle Inn" (aye- thots REALLY it's name)...

"Hole I' The Wa'".... "Robert The Bruce"... "Dalston House"... "Cavens"... ""Fleshers"...

"Dickies"... an ended at "Slip Stream"...

the Spread Eagle had a top shelf wi aboot 12 whiskies oan it... they were all covered in

dust... many o' the lables I recognised as early 1980's.... 7 o them were interestin

enough fair ma tae try.... 6 o' those were quite guid tae.....

ai spred the guid waird aboot Tartan Dae an reminded people in a' the pubs aboot

the signin o the Declaration o Abroath.... saddens ma thot so few

Scots (at least roond here) tak pride in their ain history an traditions....

it was a lang walk hame... (whit wit a' the sideways walkin ai was doin.... :rolleyes: )

makin breccy this morn was a rough wan.... I think ai'm still a bit blootered....

after ai clean the kitchen an dining room ai need a nice lang nap.....

Sadly I had to spend Tartan Day trussed up in trousers. I worked a 3-way split shift over the course of 12 hours, and was so tired when I got home I ate supper and pretty much went to bed.

Spent most of the day kilted, at work in NYC for the first time, and walked cross-town to Grand Central to the Scottish Village exibits, gave Hugh from 21st Century Kilts Ham's regards, listened to some great music, picked up far too much information about Scotland for my wife to consider when we go over to "The Isles" for our anniversary in a couple years.

And Yes, Dispite our bantering, I met up with Colin (UmAnOnion), and we had a great, though short, time while he was waiting to meet someone.

On my walks back and forth across town, I got some stares, giggles, one person thought he would be fully and screamed out "Freedom" in Times Square as I walked by (I Love New York). On the way back I walked up 5th avenue part of the way.

Great way to spend the day!

BTW - All responses at work were very positive! As well as comments that I SHOULD wear them more often!!!!

A few kilted gents from Xmarks met at a brew pub in Harvard Sq. in (The Peoples Republic of Cambridge.)
Was a great opportunity to meet a few of the kilted locals..we drank a few pints, and discussed much about the kilted world.
It was a first Boston kilt night. "On tartan day, none the less." We plan on many more.
X marks has provided such a great connection to kilted men everywhere...
