Looks pretty good, Alan! Did they succumb to the addiction?
Tim is already addicted! He took off his Black Watch for half an hour to wear this one for pictures! We'll see if we don't hook Dan on these things, yet, though!
Prototype #3 is essentailly completed. I worked on it over vacation, since Mom has an ironing board and a sewing machine up at their vacation house.
I made this one out of navy blue 8 ounce cotton/poly twill and let me tell you....it's about a hundred times easier to sew than canvas. I tried a few new things and rejected them...things like a waistband. I put one on and then ripped it off; too much work for what it's worth. I put some A-shaping in the apron and made it narrower. That change I'm keeping...thanks to those that suggested the A-shaping. I also sewing the pleats up so that the "top" stitching fron the machine is on the OUTSIDE of the pleats. This looks much better than having one side of a pleat have the top stitch, and the other side have the bottom stitch.
Honestly, I think the thing looks pretty darned good. I made it for myself, and it fits remarkably well. It took about 12 hours, which included the waistband and re-doing the right hand edge of the over-apron. Without doing those, figure about 10.5 hours. I'll have pics as soon as I can.
Next up, the final prototype...#4 for KCW, also out of navy blue twill. KCW wants cargo pockets, so I'll take a crack at those, again. Then I'll finish up the instructions.
The Flame-Haired Celtic Amazon Goddess is looking forward to your instructions! She just used the fabric you gave her to make a kilt for Sinbad
(and did a pretty good job). Before she starts working on the X Marks fabric (thanks Robin!) she would love to get some information/feedback from you and Way2Fractious.
Cheers
