I can tell by your posts that your freaked out about this. Some here just strapped the new kilt on and went out to take on the world. I was a bit like you sound. I started by wearing it around the house to get used to it. Next the gas station and post office. When I was comfortable, restaurants. Now I fly across the country kilted. Some get into the pool one step of the ladder at a time and some plunge in all at once. The choice is yours.

Well.....I know this doesn't count....but I couldn't sleep so I went for a brisk walk around the apartment complex at 4:00 in the morning.

It didn't FEEL like I was wearing anything at all!

Are you SURE this is legal? I would think it would be against the law to feel like you're not wearing anything....

    1. It's a small step, but it does count.
    2. Yay!
    3. You know that feeling of freedom everyone keeps talking about?
    4. It is legal where you live.

The only thing odd about your wearing a kilt for a walk at 4:00 in the morning is 4:00 in the morning.

    This is a great analogy.

Ok, if you are "getting into the pool" step by step consider driving to a grocery store or small mall you don't usually go to - go in a store - walk around - buy something - and head back home. Hey, no one knows you there - so what's the risk?

Good Luck - and jump on in, the waters FINE!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first time I wore a kilt (UK original) in public was on a dinner date in another city. I got the green light from my date ahead of time, just to make sure the evening wasn't guaranteed to be a disaster: he said he thought they were hot (well, OK then).

After that, I didn't care any more.

Yeah, it's a little shocking when you first get in, but after that, you won't want to get out of the pool.

You can not do that at 4 in the morning walking around your apt. Just stand tall.

If you have the first time jitters, wear the kilt in a friendly environment, after that it gets easier and easier.

The more you wear it the more comfortable you will become.

The first time I wore my tank I wore it to a planning meeting for the "Kirk'n of the Tartans" at church. The best looking lady in the bunch came in late and immediately exclaimed "I love your Kilt"! Considering she was at least 30 years younger than me, I decided it was a great first time kilt wearing experience.

I just want to be comfortable and try something new and different.

I wish I could drink alcohol....it would help.....

We'll see what happens tonight....after I pay the bills.

I'll go out walking and if I want people to see me I will head north and if I don't want anyone to see me I will head south.
